When making healthy lifestyle changes, where do you begin? Diet, exercise or something else?
Diet, exercise, giving up bad habits & replacing them with new, more positive ones, getting more fresh air etc.
You don't have to start one thing at a time, it's like putting it off; just go for it all together & try to improve your lifestyle choices each & every day!
I would think you should put them in order of what is most important to you, and start with the most important and then follow with the others. If the most important is what is hardest and you get through it then the rest should be easy and fall into place. For me I I needed to quit smoking it was the hardest on my list of things I wanted to change, then exercise came next and was so much easier to get into! Good Luck to you!
In my opinion, how one goes about making changes is likely individualized by circumstances, finance, time constraints, etc. as well as determined by personality and character. The answers provided are great answers and each approach certainly works for some people. I was curious to learn how others approached lifestyle changes and now I am becoming enlightened. Thank you.
Well, lifestyle changes are obviously major. Your lifestyle is you, so you are changing yourself, which usually takes a lot of hard work and effort. I've made some lifestyle changes over the years, and no matter what it was, I began with preparing myself mentally. Convincing myself, committing myself and surrendering myself to the change I want to be. I quit smoking cold turkey, 3 years ago September 20th (woo!), two years ago I started eating healthier and re-programmed myself to love healthy foods...and now I don't like junk foods as much (I'm not sure if I'm sad over that or not yet..). This year I started working out. I'm still working on that, but I'm putting in a lot of effort. I want to be healthy.
If you're speaking in terms of what the best thing to start with is, I think that should be either whatever you dislike the most, or the change you think will be easiest (that way you will have less chance of failure, and be able to see success to motivate your next chosen lifestyle change)
Whatever you're doing, I wish you luck
Diet and exercise go hand and hand. Eat healthy food and exercise at least 3-4 times a week.
Spirit, mind, then body. All simultaneously. Diet with exercise works best and don't forget to drink plenty of water.
Here are a few tips
1. Don’t eat anything that is white. Name every single food that is white and chances are you shouldn’t be eating it: bread, pasta, crackers, most cereals, flour based products, white potatoes, white rice, and pasteurized dairy and cheese are all no-no’s during this time.
2. Only drink water, NOTHING else!
3. Don’t eat anything with the word wheat in the ingredients list. This includes bread, pasta, crackers and cereal. Many packaged snack foods also contain wheat so be sure to read the ingredients list carefully.
Good Luck
