   I work with ADD and ADHD students everyday.  The best tip I can give you is to be patient.  ADD students need constent redirection and repetition so if you can somehow incorporate a game or the use of a computer in your lesson it will help keep their attention. An ADD student I had last years was obsessed with dinosaurs so I incorporated them into his lessons all the time. Another trick I use is to give my ADD students some sort of physical action to help them remember to focus. It can be as simple as teaching them to squeeze the pads of their thumb and forefinger together.  The physical action is a trigger that reminds them to refocus.

   Hi
   I would like to share with you that I have been and ADD student since I have ever remember. However, I was exceptionally top in my grades and schools. I think what made me so successful was my interest and understanding overall to the subjects. Moreover, the relationship between me and my teachers played a very important role paying more attention.
   After all, I would say, I do have ADD still in my adulthood and I could find ways to concentrate. Ways are like: listening to the music, freedom and not pressure, doing tasks which I have interest reinforcement.
   I think you may want to make a good relationship first with your students. Then encourage them on their tasks and reinforce them when they are good in paying attention.
   There are other ways of course which might be differ to the individuals.

   Let them have breaks, in-between long periods, so that they can release the tension.  The other important factor is to stay in touch with parents, making sure that they eat healthy snacks that do not have a lot of sugar and are getting enough sleep at home.
   Positive reinforcement is a great way to help them stay on task and give it to them often.  Learning outside or take the class if you can under a tree for outside learning.  Teach with visual and auditory and tactile learning.  If you have access to computers, those can be very beneficial as well, having the student put on headphones and reading at the same time.  Let the students know beforehand what they are going to be learning and what is expected of them and repeat it often.

   One thing to keep in mind is that often their inability to complete an assignment quickly is their limited powers of concentration. Keeping their work to small doses, with lots of time for organized outlets for physical energy (games, etc.) may help.  They want to learn, but may have trouble channeling that excitement to constructive means. They will appreciate your firm guidance and gentle patience.
