Which one do you think Earl, what's so good about not being able to sleep.  Unless you can naturally go without sleep and function well.

Whether or not insomnia is a blessing or a curse is depended on your lifestyle.  For instance, if you work at night and can't sleep I guess it's a good thing.  However,, every body needs rest and if it is not getting  its requirement then you are living an unhealthy life.

Absolutely a blessing!  If you have insomnia you can stay up all night on your computer watching all those forbidden sites, you can watch all the infomercials and you might just get a really really good deal, you can play poker with your friends all night and never get tired so whilst your friends get sleepy and get their guards down, you can rake in lots of mullah, assuming of course you know how to play poker, you can make crank calls to your enemies who are sleeping soundly and wake them up.. why should they have the pleasure of sleeping,  The list is endless.  So most definitely - insomnia is a blessing.

    Have a nice day!

Insomnia is definitely not a blessing, but can be good sometimes when you are studying because it will make you stay awake most of the times specially on sleeping hours schedules. But having said that, it is not a joke, it is a sleeping disorder on a short or long term basis is extremely stressful and can also affect your loved ones and those you work with. One thing, i knew of is don't drink anything which has a stimulant close to bed time hours because rest assured you will never get to sleep. Keep away from drinks which has a caffeine at night time. We should know the effect of caffeine on sleep. The second one is stress. Try to take it easy at night time don't stress yourself, so you can have atleast a chance of getting a peaceful sleep. sometimes I enjoy the quiet solitude and can get lots done - other times I sincerely feel sympathy for those who deal with insomnia a lot and can see how it could drive you crazy.  I guess it can be both.

I tend to spend most of my sleepless time on hubpages so for that it's useful, otherwise it's a pain in the arse!

I would say a curse I could imagine no sleep would eventually turn you into a zombie. I love my sleep.

When I have suffered from insomnia in the past, I have tried two tactics--1.  The squrim and squrim more method, and 2. The Welcome the Unsleepies method.  When I fight the inability to sleep with squriming and turning and tossing and having a little boxing match with my bedclothes, I end up agitated, exhausted and more unable to return to rest.  However, as I learned to welcome the "no sleep zone," I found that getting up from bed, warming up some milk and dripping a little vanilla in it, then sipping it, would soothe me back into sleep.  I might rest on the sofa for a bit and ponder the silence and calm of the energy of the night.  I don't know if you've ever noticed how quiet night energy is because so many of us are sleeping (if we're lucky).  I try to relish those awake-in-the-middle-of-the-night moments as peaceful blips of calm for me.  With my mug of milk and vanilla (milk has proven to be calming), then I am doing something good for myself to bring the sleep cycle back and also making the best of the wakeful moment.

I would say its a curse. Even If I can sleep, I seem to not be able to stay asleep for long.

It depends on you, if you love staying late at night then it would be a blessing for you, but as for those who need to wake up early and go to work, enough sleep is much needed.

For me Insomnia is a curse, even though you are so tired you and you really want to take a rest but still you can't still go to bed.

Depends what you want to do with it...A lot of composers have written songs because they could not sleep.  If you're going to lie there hating life because you can't sleep, it's a curse.  If you turn on the light and start penning your best seller, it's a blessing.  See you on the New York Times best seller list.

Insomnia is a curse.  I had it for two years, and it nearly cost me my life:

For six months, I slept one or two hours per night.  Driving from a business  meeting on a lonely stretch of highway, I finally got some sleep--behind the wheel of my Corolla.  I ran off the road, nearly slamming into a tree.

Insomnia is also bad for your health, as most people should get 6 hours of sleep per night.  I personally believe it ages you, takes your emotions on a roller coaster ride, and helps you gain wight, since you have more hours in the day to eat.

Consult your doctor for more information.

I see it more of a blessing. As a writer - I need sleepless nights away from the public eye. It helps me break apart and relax.

As confirmed nite owl, I would say a blessing. Although originally my sleep cycle was disrupted through long on calls shifts it soon became a way of life.  I have consistently managed to get an extra 3-4 hours a day and it helps to be extra productive. I occasionally do have a catch -up day once a month but it is small price to pay. I think sleep-lite humanity is the next stage in evolution ( or insanity!)

I guess it depends on who you are.  Infomercial creators love insomniacs.  Donut shops love "early to bed, early to rise" people.

Sounds like you are too hyped up. Avoid stimulants in the afternoon. Get good exercise like bicycling and gardening. You'll be fine.

Curse.  Nothing else can be right with your body when you do not get restorative sleep.

Depends on how productive you can be without sleep.  Some people are only insomniacs because they are up all night playing World of Warcraft, or Call of Duty.

Someone might look at it initially and call it a blessing citing the fact that sleeping is simply time wasted.  There is some truth to that but sleep is a necessary period for the body to refresh itself and refuel its engines.  Prolonged insomnia eventually puts the body into a state of exhaustion which if continued starts to create siginficant health issues for the person.  Insomnia is an insidious affliction that should be addressed with proper medical care.  WB

Insomnia is probably a blessing if your house catches on fire. Otherwise, I would consider it to be a curse.

I reached this age thinking that I have insomnia all my life... but I think it's not insomnia because I can always sleeps when I want to.... maybe it's a curse when you are feeling all tired, you want to sleep but can't sleep.. but for me though I don't want to call it a blessing, I can be more productive at night, and I can stay awake until the following day then go to work
