As a butcher, I have seen all kinds of unappetizing things going on in meat. I have seen cancers, infections and various other diseases, including tuberculosis. Pork by far is the worst of all, red meat is not so bad as long as it is lean and in moderation. As for myself, I eat a lot of ground turkey breast and skinless/boneless chicken, usually the breast portions. I stay away from farm raised fish and shrimp, more specifically the salmon and tilapia.
The color enhancers in farm raised salmon cause you to retain fat and actually change the color of your own tissues as well, and has been shown to cause cancer (even though it is high in Omega 3's). Tilapia is high in Omega 6's and work against the benefits of the Omega 3's, also causing you to reatain more fat than if you ate a glazed doughnut of the same portion size (according to Dr. Oz).
I have a hub called "The Other White Meat May Kill You". Check it out.
