Is there a way to 'un-remember' a bad episode in your life?


Oft times we come across moments of depression or sadness caused by some bad experience, either by a person or circumstances. And long after you've 'survived' the bad episode, the lingering sadness still negatively affects our present lives and our day-to-day functions. Does anyone know of a 'switch off' or 'ignore' button?
