Beating Your Demons

Updated on November 18, 2014

When The Tide Turns

We all have Skeletons in our closet. For most of us, our past haunts us and the mistakes we have made in our life continue to drench us like a monsoon. However with that being said our past does not determine our future and our mistakes do not determine who we are.
Throughout our lives there are going to be many turns of the tide. We are going to experience many emotions and it is how we are able to handle those emotions that are going to affect the outcome of our destination. 12 years ago if you had told me that I will be married to an amazing woman, graduated from college with a bachelors degree and living in Texas before you become 30 years old I would have laughed in your face. As an 18 year old boy, I had no idea where I wanted to be or any clue of what I wanted to do nor the direction I wanted to take in my life and though the journey is not yet over and there is still much I wanted to do up until this point I have experienced a spectrum of emotions and it is because of the 3 ways I learned on how to handle those emotions that continue to help me fight my demons and keep them at bay so that my journey continues to be successful and that I know will help me reach my destination. Let me share with you what those are.

Do Not Isolate Yourself

Growing up I was a very social person. I was very outgoing and I had lots of friends that I loved to be around and would hang out with as often as I could. As time went on and more and more demons started coming my way I did not want anybody to see my struggles including my family so I would isolate myself and try to be alone most of the time.

. We have to stick together and protect one another from the evils of this world. Sometimes the biggest battle we are fighting is the one within ourselves and I promise you that if we learn to open up those battles will be easier to handle and having at least one or two people who at least understand what is going on makes a world of difference.
I started attending Especially For Youth every year which helped strengthen my testimony and it always gave me a resolve to do better. Satan’s Tactic is to get us alone because he has a better chance of pulling us down. We are our own worst enemy and our own worst Critic. He knows that and he will do anything he can to separate us from each other
There are people in your life who want to help. Do not shut them out. Do not let your pride get in the way of letting them in. You don't have to struggle alone. Maybe right now you may not be able to talk to family or friends or you do not know how to address the issue then may I suggest that you go talk to a professional. I can assure you that there is at least one person who will be able to help you just need to take the first step of letting them in.

Learn To Ask For Help

I have never liked having to ask for help and still even now it is difficult for me to ask for help when I truly need it.My awesome wife reminds me on a daily basis that I am not weak when I ask for help but it is a sign of strength and courage.

Give Service Whenever Possible

One of my favorite Scriptures is in James Chapter 1 verse 27 that say’s Pure Religion undefiled is this to visit the Fatherless and Widows and their affliction and to keep himself unspotted from the world. At the end of the day we are all trying to get back to the same place. We all have our own lives to live but to be blunt we need to get over ourselves and we need to help each other out. We may not be able to do everything for everybody we can do something for somebody. Christ spent 34 years of his life serving, healing and ministering to his brothers and sisters yet we have a hard time taking an hour or two to help our neighbors across the way. I promise you that as you help others you in turn will also be helped. It may not be in the way that you think or want but it will be exactly what you need.

Keep on Keepin On

If you remember anything from this article remember the most important thing is to just keep keepin on. When you stop moving is when things become more difficult. I always think of the words from that country song "if you are moving through hell just keep on moving, you might get out before the devil even knows your there." You are stronger than your demons. Believe in yourself and you will be able to change the world.
