The Best Nursing Tops for Comfortable & Discreet Breastfeeding

Updated on July 20, 2011

The Best Nursing Tops Allow Discreet Feeding

For breastfeeding Moms (and those who plan to breastfeed) the best nursing tops are ones which allow for comfortable and discreet nursing, inside or outside of the home. Designed to be easily undone with one hand, the following nursing tops offer a simple and effective way to cover your own body while simultaneously feeding your baby comfortably. For most of us, we want to protect our modesty somewhat when breastfeeding (especially when we are just starting out) and the nursing top allows us to do exactly this - breastfeed in comfort and also discreetly wherever we are.

The emergence of dedicated nursing tops has definitely made baby feeding more convenient and private than it was previously. Below you'll find the best nursing tops available today, so feeding can be done conveniently and as frequently needed, ensuring a well-nourished new born and a Mom who doesn't have to worry about feelings of embarrassment or immodesty.

Breastfeed Comfortably Anywhere, Anytime

For those who have yet to meet their little bundle and start on the breastfeeding journey, it's wise to be aware of the fact that a new-born baby typically feeds pretty much constantly, about 8 to 12 times a day, for about 20 to 45 minutes each session (for the first weeks at least)! And since he or she is nearly always sleepy, feeding times may stretch on for a lot longer. This means that if we want to go out rather than stay at home 24/7, we need to be prepared to nurse our baby at anytime and anywhere - this is where specialist maternity clothing comes in.

8 Colors Available

Bravado Nursing Bra Tank

Stylish and comfortable, this stretch cotton nursing tank is first on the list of best nursing tops. It is lined with CottonFlex for comfort and has a built-in moulded seamless bra for support and shape. It looks attractive, with a gorgeous bustline, thanks to this mould support. It even comes in different colors for Mommy’s fashion requirements.

The one handed nursing clip ensures easy access to the breast while cradling the baby. Cushioned adjustable straps make the tank top conform easily to the changing body of the mother. Mothers find themselves wearing this every day because it gives such great bust support and never shrinks in the wash. This nursing top is one good buy.

Gilligan & O'Malley Full Sling Nursing Tank

The best nursing tops do not have to look frumpy on Mommy. Gilligan & O’Malley’s full sling nursing tank is probably the most stylish top on this list. The lace trim on the neck line makes it a nursing top that’s a good addition to the wardrobe.

Convenience coincides with its style. Its one-handed snaps open the flaps of the top easily for immediate feeding. Breasts are supported by the inner lining of the tank that is cool and comfortable against the skin. 90% cotton and 10% spandex, it provides breathability and adaptability to the mother’s body and movement.

Medela Maternity Nursing Cami

The stylish simplicity and functionality of the Medela Maternity nursing cami makes it one of the best nursing tops available to the nursing mom. Designed to hide most of the chest while breastfeeding, it is made out of soft material that keeps mommy comfortable while being thoroughly covered.

Maternity sizing is also accurate. And with its lace trim and neutral colours, this nursing top can go with any wardrobe. Made with 67% rayon from bamboo, 28% cotton and 5% spandex, it is machine washable, cheap but extremely durable and therefore ideal for everyday use.

Nursing Tank By Undercover Mama

You may have that nifty nursing bra but you can’t seem to pair it with a top that will provide you with good coverage while nursing. Undercover mama’s strapless undershirt is made to attach directly to your nursing bra, making it look like you have a tank top on.

It provides convenience and that much needed coverage for your back, sides and belly in case feeding needs to be done in a more public place. It provides good tummy support as well. Fashion-wise, the length is great for layering and it comes in functional neutral colours like brown, black, white and cream.

Feeding a growing baby is no joke. A nursing mother has to be patient and keep herself healthy as she is the vessel for that baby’s nourishment. With all these things to consider, the simple process of being able to feed her baby should not be something she should have to think about too much. Fortunately, designers of best nursing tops know this. The one-handed nursing clips, good breast support and breathable materials are modern conveniences now affordable for today’s mom and mom-to-be. Now feeding can be done conveniently, anytime anywhere.

I invested in a nursing top and loved it. It was so much better than a nursing bra. If they seem a bit pricey, new mom's should know you wear them almost everyday. I even wore some at night, because I could put a pad in to protect my sheets, and husband, LOL, if I would leak. They are supportive, fashionable, discreet, and a great investment to help new moms maintain nursing. Voted up and shared!

These nursing tops are great aren't they? They weren't around when I was breastfeeding, but if they were I would have bought some. Like you say Spacey, they keep your tummy and back covered and so there's no worries about showing off too much flesh.

I wish I had bought some of these when I was nursing my sons. The last thing you want to do as a new mum is pull up your top to nurse and reveal your newly saggy stretch-marked baby belly. These nursing tops look like a real dignity-saver.
