What exactly is body detoxification?

Detoxification refers to the body's natural and constant process of eliminating poisons or toxins through the liver, kidneys, colon, lymph and skin. Although our bodies do it naturally every day, we do sometimes need an extra step to flush our systems. Through detoxification, we can successfully assist the body to eliminate dangerous toxins, chemicals, metals, parasites and other unwanted substances.

Basically, detoxification means cleaning the blood. It does this mainly by removing waste from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. It's all about cleaning and nourishing the body from the inside out. By removing and eliminating toxins, detoxifying can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health.

The Benefits Of Detoxifying

If the toxins we consume cannot be destroyed by our digestive system, detoxified by the liver, or eliminated by the lymph system (an important part of our immune system), they begin to build up. As they accumulate, they start to affect the body which can result in slow metabolism, low energy, reduced immunity, and can lead to serious chronic diseases.

The original Master Cleanser (also known as the Lemonade Diet) developed by Stanley Burroughs in 1941, has recently been made famous by Beyonce Knowles, Robin Quivers, and Isaac Hayes. Beyonce announced on the Oprah show that she had lost 20 pounds on the Master Cleanse to prepare for her role in the movie - Dreamgirls.

This is the easiest way to regain your vitality and allow your body to repair and clean itself.

The Master Cleanse Detox or The Lemon Cleanse

The Master Cleanse involves eating no solid food. Instead, you drink a mixture of water, lemon juice, Grade B maple syrup, and Cayenne pepper.

The rules are simple. Each day you drink 6-12 glasses of the following mix:

The Master Cleanser Recipe:

  • 2 tablespoons lemon (or lime) juice (approx. 1/2 lemon)
  • 2 tablespoons of genuine "grade B" maple syrup (not maple flavored sugar syrup)
  • 1/10 Teaspoon or more cayenne pepper
  • 1 Cup (8 fluid ounces) of water, room temperature

Combine all the above ingredients in a jar and shake together.

Follow this for 10 days.

Detoxification does take determination and there will be times when you'll feel like quiting. So before you start you need to prepare both your mind and your body for the experience ahead.

      this really works. tried it twice.you might think ur hungry but u really aren't.. i did cheat one day and had a bowl of chicken soup because i felt lightheaded due to that time of teh month. after that it was all good. Im on the 4th day. i like it

      this is great, i lost many pounds and have become addicted to not eating for many days, only when i feel faint then i have bread. this way helps me look like a model. and i save money because i dont eat food.

      This is my 4th day of doing this , I lost 3lbs alrady! It really works! I will try do do it for 1 month, that is my goal! I do get hungry sometimes, mostly in the morning, and during the day, I just eat a few bites of cantaloupe, grapes or peaches! Doctor said that you can eat a few bites of these fruit, during this diet.

      You people are insane. Just eat better!! You cannot do this for an entire month, being "addicted" to not eating is called anorexia and if your doctor is not stopping you from bein on this diet than you need to see another doctor.

      Ive tried it several times. Each time by day 3 I had intense migraines and nearly passed out. My doctor said something about the toxins causing a reaction in my body. I did lose 3-6lbs each time but I think its more from the non-stop vomiting from the migraine. I felt weak and unfocused. Im confused at how people can manage a normal life while on this.

      for people who have eating problems. i don't think this is the solution. be careful because you will start a yo yo effect on your body. this is more dangerous for your health. eat healthy and naturally. this is the best way to go.

      I did this diet once. I was determined. I once lost 4 stone on a different diet so I have alot of willpower and determination. I was determined to stick to this to detox my body. On day 3, I gave it up. Why? Because I felt like SHIT. I had literally no energy whatsoever, I constantly felt like I was gunna be sick, I was dizzy, lethargic, had a constant headache. I decided that it wasn't worth putting myself through it and I am now on a more sensible detox diet which involves lots of fruit, vegetables and oily fish. Much better!!! I do still have the iccy side effects of headaches lethargy etc, but theyre nowhere near as intense as on the master cleanse and it is normal to experience some side effects while detoxing.

      Also, the mixture tastes like CRAP! lol At first I thought, oooh its not too bad, I can drink this for 10 days, by day 3 I detested it.

      Just a bit of info for anybody considering trying it :)

      In my opinion,you girls shouldn't put your body through that pain. Your body will starve, and you won't get your daily requirements of vitamins, minerals, proteins and even carbs and fats that your body needs. Your body needs food, that's why God created plants and animals. If you want to lose weight, try a balanced diet that consists of all the food categories in the right proportions, and exercise!!! Slightly chubby women are not unhealthy, and please don't get into this franchise of being a zero size woman. You will look like a zombie if you don't eat healthy solid food, no matter how much make-up you wear. Sorry for the long comment. Take care =)

      wat the article dosent tell you is that you can have raw vegetables and fruit WHEN EVER THERES HUNGER and take a multivitamin and that cause me to be successful on this diet!

      How about just drinking lots of water daily?

      Simple. Eat healthy food (as long as it's not in excess), drink water. Exercise. Sleep on time.DRINK WATER!

      You can do this cleanse if you are already thin to detoxify... I did and it helped me kick smoking quicker and faster than if I had done so eating normally. I personally wouldn't advocate it for weight loss unless you have major self control in the week or so following when your metabolism is still slow. As with any time in life, you can gain the weight again.

      One thing that is important is that you follow a diet basically of vegan mostly raw foods for three days prior. Then take colonics or cleansing enemas during. If you don't the undigested toxic food will sit in your digestive tract and cause the seriously uncomfortable toxic side effects people talk about being unable to deal with on the thrid day or so. When you think about it, not only are you slowing your metabolism, you are not adding food to move the old food through your digestive tract.

      Also headaches and migranes can often be attributed to caffeine withdrawal so make sure you slowly reduce caffeine before starting a cleanse. Good luck!

      I researched this when I heard about it and I would like to make some corrections!!!!! I have used this many times and it is actually really good for your body!!!!!!

      The maple syrup gives you your carbs, the lemons give you your vitamin C (immune protection), and the cayenne rushes all this through your system and since it makes your blood pump faster you tend to have more energy (alot more for the first 2 to three days). If you are use to exercise then you can continue your normal routine, but if you are not use to exersicing you will not want to push yourself to hard because you will over do it and crash.

      I take zeolite instead. zeolite powder trapes the positively charged gunk in your system. And it doesn't make you sick. You can eat normally (but use wisdom. eat things that are good for you) and you will be suprised at how you feel. Liquid zeolite works better if you are having brain or neurological problems.

      Did it and feel great.. ive lost about a stone in 10 days and 9cm around my waist. during these 10 days i did 1 hour light cardio exercises and core abs exercises... the key is that you need to have a huge mental to do it... there were times that i was very hungry but as soon as you drink your lemonade diet, the feel of hunger was gone... i would recommend it yes together with a light cardio...

      Seriously? Am I one of the only ones here looking for a detox just to detox? You want to lose weight? Hit the treadmill or something. Get off your butt and go sweat... Freakin lazy people resorting to not eating to lose weight... Pathetic.

      @nick, i was looking at this to try and detox as well....lol, i just had a baby, and im looking to rid myself from the toxins ive built up in pregnancy, to try to purify myself..i just feel yukky, but ill wait until my baby is older...i dont want to harm her in any way by not eating properly

      Cleansing is good...but basically living off of water, syrup, lemon and pepper has no nourishment for your body. No wonder people are experiencing headaches, nauseua and no energy. Not rocket science people, not rocket science. P.S. Getting addicted to not eating will kill you sister. Slowly.

      I am on day three and today I am still holding strong. Day one was a OMG day but I made it through. Day two had issues with sleep because late at night I am doing nothing. During the day I stay busy so I will not think too about food. All in all it is not bad I do am not as hungry as I thought I would be. I will post my results on the last day of my detox.

      It doesn't seem like a bad idea, but there are downsides (just like everything to get healthy or lose weight). You may feel hungry and lacking energy, but i've tried other health kicks and ive had those side affects anyways because you put your body through something else. Its always gonna be tough at first but maybe its something good to try every once and a while. Its not like people do this to starve themselves, it can help get your metabolism and body back on track. I have a very slow metabolism and sometimes I eat fruits and vegetables to try to decrease how much sugar and junk i put into my body, and it wouldnt hurt to do that and have a drink to detox too. You CAN eat some fruits and veggies on this too, its just getting rid of harmful things in your body. If you actually do it right, dont push your body too hard, and dont make yourself completely sick and lethargic, it seems like a good method to try.

      I dislike when people use forums to judge other people and leave rude comments....but, with that being said...in my opinion, it is an excellent idea to do a cleanse at least once a year and there are several different kinds of cleanses for different kinds of people...I have done the master clease a few years ago for 7 days....not 10.....and it definitely works...I am about to do another cleanse to help quit the nasty habit of smoking cigarettes and to clean out my system....but, not sure which one yet!?

      I dont know why every comment Im reading on here is saying diet I googled "what is the best body cleanse" and it pulled up The Master Cleanse and all im seeing is people talking about how much weight they have lost dont get me wrong i wouldnt mind shedding a few but I do want a cleanse not something that is being considered a diet so does anybody know of a good body cleanse

      Anyone living off pure liquids will lose rapid weight immediately. I'm not amazed by these results at all. It'll all just come back when you resume a normal diet.

      Fasting is about getting rid of toxins to be healthier not loosing weight. A prolonged fast will ruin your skin and deplete muscle mass. I would suggest only a 24 hour fast, but then again that's my opinion.

      I was looking up detoxing because I wanted to try another approach other than dialysis, I have been blessed not to be on it because my kidneys are failing, i figured if I could find a more natural approach it would buy me time I have already changed my eating habits but I need more, any comments would be appreciated..Thanks
