Blackberry Nutrients Protect Us from Cancer

Though blackberries are just closely ranked to the top ORAC fruits, they contain a variety of nutrients that are capable of reducing our risks of cancer. These anti carcinogenic, antioxidant nutrients in blackberries include vitamin C, anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and phenolic acids. Anthocyanins and ellagic acids are proven to fight oxidative damage and to have antioxidant effects in the body leading to a reduction in our cancer risks. Vitamin C on the other hand, is another strong free radical scavenger that also acts to enhance immune function and prevents the development of certain types of cancers.

One study revealed and confirmed that blackberries display anti cancer properties, especially when it comes to esophageal cancer. Blackberries were found to alleviate oxidative stress caused a precancerous condition called Barret's esophagus which usually results from gastroesophageal reflux disease. The alleviation of oxidative stress prevented esophageal cancer from developing. Blackberries are especially high in phenolic acids and this is perhaps the greatest benefit you can get from eating blackberries or drinking its juice.

Blackberry Juice for Beautiful, Protected Skin

Ellagic acid and vitamin C are two nutrients that play a significant role in protecting the skin against damage from the sun as well as from free radicals. Fortunately, our blackberry juice here contains both of these skin-enhancing nutrients. Ellagic acid can also help repair skin cells that are damaged due to too much sun exposure. Vitamin C is a well known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and toxins that may affect the appearance of our skin. It was also found to help in wound healing and skin repair. Another compound in blackberries which is found to be of special interest when it comes to skin protection is cyanidin-3-glucoside. Surprisingly, this compound was found to inhibit the growth and spread of skin carcinoma.
