It is very rare for a mom that is committed to breastfeeding to not be able to. I do have a friend that went to a lactation consultant and had experienced moms helping her and she just did not make enough milk and her baby was not gaining. But MOST ladies can breastfeed. I loved breastfeeding.

I believe in natural way of things and breastfeeding is only natural.

Why try to beat the natural way? Nature has had millions of years to perfect the process and about 100,000 in man! There are massive nutritional, health and psychological benefits.

Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner - Bare Naked

The Boppy pillow is simply a pillow that fits around your torso so you can lay your baby down to nurse or take a bottle. The pillow is comfortable, and can be used until about 6 months of age (at which point they will probably try to sit up to eat a bottle, or may need more headroom than this will provide). In the first six months, this can be a lifesaver, helping to position the baby in just the right way for nursing. It also can be used later to help them learn to sit up on their own!

Our daughter finally weaned herself later than most - obviously it was something she needed. I am afraid I see 'formula' as a commercial enterprise, which can however obviously benefit those unfortunate few who, for whatever reason, are unable to go the natural way. Even then, a home-prepared nutritional substitute is possibly better. Humans survived before formula!
