Some things you can try at home:

  1. Cut a lemon in half. Rub it on your knees and/or elbows. Leave on for at least 5 minutes. Rinse. If the lemon irritates your skin, discontinue this treatment.

  1. When in the shower, use a pumice stone to scrub the area gently. Do not break the skin. If you do not want to use a pumice stone, scrub the area with a loofah. Dry, dead skin is a cause of dark elbows and knees.

  1. Moisturize the area two or three times a day.

  1. Drink plenty of water. Water is great for your skin.

  1. Prevent further damage by not leaning on your elbows or kneeling down.

Elbow and Knee Skin Maintenance

Follow the above tips for several weeks.

Once you have your dark elbows and knees taken care of, you need to make sure it does not happen again. Make sure you stay hydrated with plenty of water and moisturize often. Try to avoid leaning on your elbows at the table or at any other time. Also, try to avoid getting on your knees, if possible.

You will still need to loofah your skin every few days to make sure the dead skin remains gone.
