Detoxify the Body-6 Fruits that Will Help You Detox and Shed Pounds

Updated on April 19, 2011

There are so many products on the market today that promise to detoxify the body and help you lose weight. Many of these products can be dangerous, have side effects, be expensive, or simply not work well at all. The best way to detoxify your body is to use all natural fruits.

Recently I spent some time looking through several websites and stores in my town looking for the best products in pill form or powder that I could use to cleanse my system and help me start to lose weight. After almost a week or running around, I was both tired and frustrated. Being a diabetic, I was limited with what I could use that was safe for my body. I also had my gall bladder taken out a few years ago and many of the products on the market require that the ingredients be processed through the gall bladder to reach the other organs or else there could be consequences that I was not ready to deal with.

That being said, I set out to do some research to see which fruits would do the job naturally, afford-ably and with no side effects or being unsafe for both diabetics and those who are missing organs such as I am.

Fruits that Help with Brain Power

Cherries, Strawberries and Raspberries are all rich in ellagic acid which is a nutrient that helps mop up free radicals and help combat pollutants such as alcohol. They also boost brain power.

Clear Arteries and Smooth Blood Flow

Eating purple grapes are an excellent source. These fruits are rich in flavinols which help your arteries work to the max and make your blood run smooth and quick.

Cleanse Your Liver

Eating citrus fruit and berries is an excellent way to cleanse your liver and help detoxify the body. High in Vitamin C an E, these are a yummy way to eat your way to a clean body and lose some weight.

Alfafa and milk thistle supplements, although not essentially a fruit, are also an excellent source for helping to detoxify your liver.

Cleanse Your Colon

There are many colon cleansers on the market today and trying to choose between them can be such a headache. By choosing to eat natural fruits, you can avoid the hassle and gain extra benefits of added vitamins and minerals which your body will thank you for. Prunes and fibre are one of the best all natural ways to cleanse your colon and keep it healthy and working strong. Prunes stimulate the gut to expel the waste quicker so it does not have time to stay in your system and block things up. By adding fibre to your diet as well, you are just ensuring that any waste left behind by the prunes, is flushed out completely.

Take Care of Your Kidneys

One of the best known ways to cleanse and flush out the kidneys is by drinking or eating cranberries. These wonderful berries contain proanthocyanidin which are antioxidants that are used in the cleansing system within the kidneys.

Clear those Lungs

This was an excellent find for me when I came across the information. While I am on the road to a healthier lifestyle, one of the few habits I have still yet to kick is smoking. So this was a nice little bit of info to find especially since I love apricots.

Apricots are rich in beta carotene and Vitamin C and are an excellent source for helping to repair the smoke damage to the lungs.

While there may be other fruits and vegetables that are great to help you detoxify the body and get you on your way to losing weight faster and easier, these choices are some of the best and the most enjoyable to eat. Remember that keeping a clean body and healthy weight means an active lifestyle and constant attention paid to what we put in our bodies. The key is to find those foods that will satisfy our palates at the same time as nourish our bodies. With a little research and experimenting with various recipes, this can be both a fun and delicious way to live a healthy balanced life.
