Conscious and Unconscious Affirmations
Affirmations are very powerful statements that most us make everyday whether we are consciously aware of it or not. Each time you tell yourself that you are stupid or clumsy or have a bad memory, you are affirming or instilling a belief into your subconscious mind. These beliefs become especially strong if you previously heard them as a child; since a child's subconscious absorbs and believes everything it hears. Whatever pictures or emotions you hold in your mind whether good or bad is an affirmation you are making.
With EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) you can change the effects of this self sabotage, with a procedure called "Erase and Replace." You erase the limiting beliefs that you are unconsciously affirming and replace them with new positive beliefs, thereby consciously using affirmations to your advantage.
The keyword to an empowered affirmation is belief. Just repeating empty words that you don't believe to be true, or you don't believe you deserve, will never manifest anything in your life. Using EFT with your affirmations allows you to change the limiting beliefs that keep your dreams from coming true.

3 Ways EFT Empowers Affirmations
Eliminate doubt and limiting beliefs
EFT can help to empower your affirmations in 3 very important ways.
First, by eliminating any doubt that you have concerning the positive affirmation. That little voice in you head that doesn't believe in and negates whatever you are saying.
Secondly, you can tap and say your affirmations (after clearing away the doubt of course) at each of the tapping points. Tapping the affirmations into your energy field will put them in harmony with your personal vibration.
The third way that EFT can help, is by clearing the limiting beliefs that were made by those unconscious affirmations.

Re-programming the mind
Modern science suggests that it is futile to reason with the subconscious mind. Better results are achieved from re-programming the mind. Modalities that reprogram previously learned behaviors are collectively referred to as "Energy Psychology."
EFT is probably the most widely known technique in this field, and the easiest for the "lay person" to use. It is a highly effective eraser for all the negative emotions and beliefs that keep us from achieving our goals. Simply put, if you are affirming that you deserve abundance, love, and prosperity, and a little voice in your head says "no you don't," this is unconscious resistance that needs to be released. EFT therapists call that little voice "Tail enders".
EFT is a highly effective way to erase the negative emotions and beliefs that make up these tail enders. With the skillful use of EFT, that sabotaging little voice can be neutralized and our systems re-programmed with positive beliefs.
In my own case, I replaced that annoying little voice with an angelic cheering squad, so whenever I make an affirmation I can see and hear the angels cheering and shouting encouragement!

"Tail enders" Negate Affirmations - An Example Given by Gary Craig, the Founder of EFT
Let's say a 200-pound woman uses an affirmation aimed at weighing 130 pounds. She might affirm something like this...
"My normal weight is 130 pounds and that's what I weigh."
The logic here is that if she keeps repeating that affirmation she will perform a form of mental conditioning. As a result, she will begin to see herself differently and will naturally adjust her food intake and exercise habits to permanently achieve this new weight level. Properly done, there would be no will power involved. Her life habits would simply evolve to someone who behaved as a 130 pound woman. I know this can work because I did it myself. About 20 years ago I lost 30 pounds by consistently repeating an affirmation that said...
"My normal weight is 160 pounds and that's what I weigh."
But most people don't have my experience. Why? Because the affirmation they are stating is not the "true" affirmation. You see, the stated affirmation often has competition within the person's system. That competing affirmation gets tagged on at the tail end of the stated affirmation in a subtle, yet powerful, way and becomes the "true" affirmation.
For example, our 200 pound woman who says, "My normal weight is 130 pounds and that's what I weigh" is likely to have one or more "tail enders" show up at the end of her affirmation. They might go like this...
Â· "But if I lose the weight, people will expect me to keep it off."
Â· "But if I lose the weight, I will have to spend a lot of money for new clothes."
Â· "But if I lose the weight, men will hit on me and expect sex."
Â· I will know that I am not loveable if I lose weight and nobody hits on me.
Â· "I will never get to eat my favorite foods again."
Â· If I lose weight I might draw attention to myself.
Â· But if I lose weight my friends won't like me anymore.
Â· Being fat is in my genes so there is nothing I can do about it.
This is where EFT can help. Tap on the tail enders that are negating your affirmation. If you are afraid that you can't lose weight because you are genetically disposed to be fat, then this is a limiting belief that can be released with EFT. Tap on one tail ender at a time until you have released ALL the emotional intensity around it and then tap on the next one.
