We all know what this sickness is. We've had it. Its not fun. We get ill. We sneeze and blow our nose. Sometimes we throw up. We have headaches and muscle aches and sometimes we choke and cough.

Sometimes it turns into bronchitis, sinus infection or even pneumonia.

Its a good thing to avoid if you can.

The Web contains a considerable amout of misinformation, meaning information that is not correct, about influenza. Always be sure you are getting accurate information from a trusted source. The links below are respected agencies that distribute factual information.

What can you do to prevent getting the flu?

Other than locking yourself in a hermetically sealed cave, you may not be able to avoid exposure. Of course, during times of severe pandemics, avoiding crowded places if you can is always a good plan.

Otherwise, the best prevention is the following;

  1. Eat nutritious foods
  2. Get plenty of sleep
  3. Exercise Regularly
  4. Wash your hands frequently using soap or hand sanitizer

And if you do get sick, please don't spread the joy to other people if you can avoid it.

  1. Stay home when you're sick
  2. Cover your mouth with your sleeve when you cough

The Flu Shot

The value of the flu shot is controversial. There are those who are opposed to vaccinations of any kind.

Personally, I get the flu shot every fall. Before I started doing this, I routinely became very ill every winter with the flu. On one particular occasion, I was so ill that I damaged the lining of my nasal passages and had no sense of smell for several years.

Now, thanks to the flu shot, I rarely get the flu. I'm a believer.

What do you think?
