Foods That Increase Testosterone

Testosterone is a male hormone which plays a vital role in a man’s health and sexuality. Its production is dependent on zinc and vitamin B and although it is not found directly in the food we eat, certain foods can lead the body to produce more testosterone.

Testosterone is highly important for both men and women. However, men produce around 40 to 60 times more testosterone than women. Normally, testosterone levels in men are about 30% higher in the morning than at nighttime. This may explain why men are more interested in sex in the morning and it is part of the reason for spontaneous morning erections.

Men With Slightly Above Average Testosterone Levels Are Less Likely To Have High Blood Pressure, Less Likely To Experience A Heart Attack And Less Likely To Be

Avoid Impotence With Foods That Increase The Production Of Testosterone

Do you think your libido needs a little boost? Why not try some Testosterone foods to increase your performance. Boosting your intimate life can be as simple as upping your levels of testosterone. Even more, testosterone can also strengthen bones and muscles and even boost your brainpower.

Side Effects of Low Testosterone Levels

Did you know that about 5% of all men (and nearly 20% after age 70) suffer from low testosterone and its potential side effects: low libido, fatigue, loss of bone mass and muscle strength. And this affects women as well as around 10% of women have a low libido that leads to "personal distress".

Adding some of the following foods to your daily diet can increase your levels of testosterone in the long term. These foods are also known as natural libido enhancers or aphrodisiacs and can be used for both men and women alike.

6 Foods that increase testosterone and why they work.

1) Oysters

Oysters are natural libido enhancers because they have a high Zinc content which raises testosterone and sperm production. Oysters also improve dopamine levels which boosts libido in men and women.

Zinc is vital for many processes affecting the body; it helps to build new cells, boost the immune system, promotes growth, mental alertness, aids in proper brain function and plays an active role in the health of the male and female reproductive system giving you a testosterone boost.

Oysters are better eaten fresh and raw. They are also a good source of Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Protein, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Iron, Copper, Manganese and Selenium.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald. (2005) a team of American and Italian researchers analyzed oysters and found that they were rich in amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones.

Other natural sources of Zinc

Apart from oysters, the best sources of zinc include beef, lamb, pork, crabmeat, turkey, chicken, lobster and salmon.

Zinc supplements are also commonly used for wound healing and treatment of the common cold.

4 Ways To Incorporate Salmon In Your Daily Diet To Increase Your Testosterone Levels

1) For breakfast, you can add some smoked salmon to a bagel with soft cheese which also contains high levels of zinc.

2) Create another healthy breakfast adding some smoked salmon to your scrambled eggs.

3) At lunch time, you can add cooked salmon to a pasta salad.

4) For dinner, you can enjoy a salmon filet cooked in the oven or poached with a portion of healthy steamed vegetables like Asparagus to benefit from its high content of vitamin E

2) Oily fish

When trying to add zinc into your diet then salmon is one of the best options as it is a great source of vitamin A and zinc

Essential fats such as the omega 3 fatty acids found in oily fish and flaxseed as well as saturated fats are essential for normal testosterone production. Salmon and sardines are a good source of B vitamins B5, B6, B12, all of which are important in keeping good reproductive health.

3) Bananas

Bananas are good because they are rich in potassium and B vitamins like riboflavin which are necessary for testosterone production. Bananas also contain the enzyme bromelain that is thought to enhance the male libido.

Banana juice is a great way to introduce bananas into your daily diet. The juice is delicious with a creamy consistency.

4) Avocados

Avocados contain vitamin B6, helpful in increasing male hormone production and they have high levels of folic acid which helps to metabolize proteins to keep nerves and skin healthy. Moreover, avocado also has potassium that assists in regulating the thyroid gland that may help in increasing male libido.

Other sources of vitamin B6 are bananas, raspberries, watermelons, peppers and Brussels sprouts.

Another benefit of consuming foods rich in Vitamin E, is that it reduces the risk of developing bladder cancer which kills 12,500 Americans annually, being the fourth leading cancer killer among men, and four times more common in men than women. (source: the annual meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research, Orlando, FL, May 23, 2004.)

6) Figs

Figs are high in amino acids, which researchers believe can increase libido and your sexual stamina. Figs are also a good source of iron, magnesium, potassium, B vitamins, as well as vitamin K.

The fiber found in fruits such as figs are said to significantly lower the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

Include figs in your diet to help meet your body's daily requirements for minerals. cup serving of dried figs contains:

  • 121 milligrams of calcium, or 15 percent of the daily adult requirement;
  • 50 milligrams of magnesium, or 12 percent of the daily adult requirement;
  • 506 milligrams of potassium, or 11 percent of the daily adult requirement;
  • 1.5 milligrams of iron, or 19 percent of the daily adult requirement.

My doctor recommended the DR MAX POWERS HGH SPRAY and I didn't know how seriously to take these things - but I was hunting with a buddy and he told me how good the Dr. Max Powers HGH Spray is for libido because he used it a couple of time before.

I'm kind of a penny pincher, but this deal was too good to pass up! (I originally bought just 1 to try it out but now I buy the 3 pack to save money)

I have to say I had GREAT results! It's hard to admit the libido is not what it use to be, but last week, my wife told me her Studmuffin was back. The kids are gone, and now we are chasing each other around like a couple of teenagers. This stuff is GREAT!!! Hey baby, I'm ready! A N Y T I M E -- A N Y W H E R E !!! if you know what I mean!

Thanks for the informative hub. It ties in nicely with my hub on contraception which highlights the effect of estrogens in the environment & how they are affecting the health & hormonal balance of all of us, male & female.

As well as eating foods that boost natural hormone balance it is also very important to avoid foods & products that throw the balance out in the first place!

      regards, Lou. xx

Unless a person has a medical condition diagnosed by a doctor, he should not try any other methods.

michelle.dragon99: i agree on that one. Even i get an inmediate effect after consuming oysters!

KyonSOS23: LOL, I guess you can avoid these foods, to stop testosterone production. Otherwise, you might want to try Marjoram essential oil which acts as a sedative and has the power to turn off sexual desire.

all_time_guy: men with low testosterone levels may notice changes in mood and emotions, a decrease in body mass and strength due to loss of muscle tissue, an increase in body fat as well as alterations in bone mineral density. Not to mention inadequate erections and poor sexual performance.

compu-smart: interesting experience. I am happy for you that now you know how to counteract the effects of that. Great to "see " you again.

This is just what the doctor ordered!!!

I saw a documentary a while back that did and experiment!

It took one hot red blooded male who was high in testosterone and another guy with very low testosterone levels, and made them do certain tasks,,

The guy with the high testosterone was made to do things like washing dishes, hoovering and playing silly child games, and the other guy with the lower testosterone was made to build, drink beer and do all those manly things we do..

After the experiment, the guy with the High testosterone levels was reduced and the guy with the low levels of testosterone was increased!!

Seeing as i do all my own cooking(Re-heating), washhng, hoovering etc, these food items you listed is right up my street!

Thnkas for sharing such valuable information!;)

Nice details, But less testosterone is not much problem instead hormonal levels imbalance causes low testosterone

and i prefer an alkaline diet to control hormonal imbalance.

I will shortly write an hub on Hormonal imbalance.

However some of the foods you mention are alkaline and hence will help in controlling hormonal imbalance.

      i enjoy reading your hub

Brian: for these foods to have any effect, you really need to be constant. At least one of them a day could make a difference. I remember reading about an American Oyster farming town which "for some reason" had the highest pregnancy rates in America. I'll try to remember the name of the town or find that article.
