How can you cure insomnia?
I've been unable to sleep lately due to alot of school related stress. I am trying to find ways to fall asleep around the time I'd like to get to bed. However, I end up tossing and turning for hours on end before I actually fall asleep. Any ideas as to how I can fall asleep the moment my head hits the pillow?
We're often so busy throughout the day, we have little or no time to think. As soon as we've nothing more to do (when we go to bed), the thought process begins. The brain seeks to filter, delete and store information relating to our experiences of the day ...
That's something I found out for a Hub, and it sounds as though this could apply to you.
I solve this problem with essential oil of lavender sprinkled on my pillow and very quiet, soothing music.
Trying to force yourself to sleep will only make matters worse. It's better to just sit up and read, although not something too interesting that might set your mind working.
I don't know if there's an actual 'cure' for the problem, but there are many ways of dealing with it.
What I've done in the past is just skip an entire night of sleeping so that the next night you are so exhausted you fall asleep slightly before your desired time and still wake up when you want to. That has a lot of negatives, but it works.
Some people suggest Nyquil or Tylenol PM, but that really depends on how you react to those kind of drugs.
Also, don't try to fall asleep, but rather let yourself think about things or read and tat will relax your body enough to let you fall asleep.

It is hard to demand that we fall asleep the moment our head hits the pillow, our bodies require us to 'wind down' to sleep. I am also a student, and whenever I stay up to study, I expect to fall asleep whenever I am done, and it never happens that way! I am still thinking about what I was just looking over, and my mind keeps racing and I don't ever get to sleep. I would say avoid caffeine a few hours before you want to go to sleep, lay down and relax. Hopefully this helps you. I would try Tylenol PM too, but only if you can allow your body 8 hours to sleep, since this medication will last for a while. Expecially if you have never used it.
