What do you find useful in relieving arthritic pain in the ankle?
I use Aleve, but was wondering if there was something more effective.
glucosamine and chondroitin supplements , 1 -2 tsp of powdered gnger once a day. Also the herb Willow is also shown to help with arthritis pain. Other than oral intakes you can also try oiling, applying heat, mild weight training .etc Hope that helps ,
Don't let your physical activity levels dip. Keeping your muscles strong and your soft tissues supple will keep your condition from deteriorating your joint.
Also, I highly recommend a meditation regimen. I'm almost always able to make any minor pain cease by willing it to stop. I understand arthritis is a more serious condition, but you may find a reduction of pain if you learn methods of mental release.
You can try heat and massaging the ankle. Capricornrising's advice for not lessening your activity levels are also a good one. I have heard that more activity actually helps with arthritis, so you might want to try increasing your activity if possible.
In addition to what other hubbers have written you could also try ankle supports. You can get the kind that sportsmen/women use, especially those that take part in marital arts. They cover the foot and the ankle. I've used these for various strains/pains and they are excellent for helping to keep the joint supported and to help in reducing pain. You can purchase them online from almost anywhere, I think I bought mine from Amazon and they're not expensive.
The best way to relieve any arthritic pain is diet.
Remove all sugars, sweeteners, MSG and wheat and avoid food/drink such as red wine, brocolli and red peppers as they aggravate and inflame.
For more instant pain relief rosemary essential oil diluted in a base oil rubbed onto the area helps (though not advised if you have blood pressure. Make sure you're well hydrated and stick to low impact movements (but don't stop moving about). As others have said too, heat pads work well.
Hope the pain lessens soon

Did you have an injury recently? Are you comfortable with your footwear? How about your activities, you should avoid much impact on your ankle. I would recommend visiting a specialist.
