Massage types, massage modalities or massage techniques? Which is the correct term?
When people refer to the different massage types what is the most used term, massage types, massage modalities or massage techniques.
Although massage therapists seem to use more frequent the term massage modalities, it looks like among massage clients, the term is not widely used.
If I am correct, a massage modality reveals the type of massage being talked about such as stone massage, deep tissue massage, hot oil massage, cranial massage, etc.
The massage techniques are the various methods employ in a particular modality. Some techniques may be the same in some massages; but, there are different techniques for different modalities.
Pippap, you described very accurately the professional terminology. My question was though about the common usage among clients, regular people.
Ex: for massage techniques, Google returns on the 1st page a few results for massage modalities.
