If someone said "your to old for that", do you rebel?
clothes for instance.....because your just not "all that" anymore.........
No. not really. It is his own concept of himself, not mine. He is allowed to his own opinions.
interesting answer........but does it make you think twice?
No..think twice, you mean does my opinion get influenced by others opinion of me, sway it one way or another? Most often, not..sometimes I will consider their views with respect to business..but most likely for educational purposes only.
I used to get upset when someone said that, but now I really AM too old for some things...time to face the music I guess LOL!!
There are very select FEW individuals to whom I listen to in a serious or personal manner, in the first place. I have little, if any, concern what some "Joe' Blow's," opinion is, pertaining to me and my life. I am intelligent and realistic enough to determine what is good, bad, right or wrong.....especially for myself.
In terms of "age-related" comments.....Please refer me to the Book of Rules & name of author.....I could use a good laugh and would love to know who the Jacka$$ is, who is ignorant enough to claim WHO can or cannot do WHAT, at any age.
Speaking of "age," I am well-beyond the practice of adolescent rebellion tactics. I simply utilize my common sense and self-confidence to make my decisions and do as I see fit.
Very interesting question to pose.
First of all I wouldn't wear anything that was too young for me such as short clothing, hot pants and the like. Otherwise I have a mind of my own and I take care of me, to each his own.
why would certain types of clothing be too young for you?wouldn't the question be more if they suit you or not?
Hi Catherine, I'm 63 I was referring to like mini skirts, hot pants, halter tops and bikinis. Otherwise I wear what I please.
Rosemary, I'm only 54 but if it looked good for my body, I'd still wear it if I liked it.
(note- I wouldn't wear a bikinin, but not because of my age, but because I'm built like a teddy bear and a bikini doesn't work on my body type ...)
Not necessarily? I've been hearing that; since I was about three years old. I find these days giving more consideration to the statement, for myself. Then do it, if I feel like it. If I fail? You can always say .....
....... "You're too old for that"! ..... Cheers!
I think someone saying "You're too old for that" is extremely rude. I don't know why someone would be that undiplomatic.
In the first place (clothes as an example)...it is none of my business if someone older is not dressing appropriately. If he/she is, I am certain they already know it, and, perhaps, they are doing it to make a statement. It is not for me to judge.
Everyone of us is getting older every single day. This started at birth.
I think the statements, "You, know, you're not getting any younger," or, "You are not a spring chicken any more," is highly disrespectful.
I guess if someone said to me, "Your too old for that," my response would be, "Oh yeah? Watch me!" Then I would do whatever "that" happened to be.
Blessings, Sparklea
People can be very rude....such as this, I was pregnant with my 5th child....a lady said to me...."I sure hope you're gonna get your tubes tied after this one!" Was she secretly supporting us all? After I picked my jaw off the floor, I walked away.
Rutley, I never fail to be amazed at the things people say! My best friend had 6 kids. She is a wonderful mom, and her kids turned out great. She has about 16 grandchildren. Christmas is quite alot of confusion, but alot of fun!
No, not really.
One of the delights of being older is I no longer let public opinion dictate what I should or shouldn't do (I'm too old to be that insecure ...)
The one exception to this is that, if it's something that I didn't want to do, and someone says "you're too old for that", while there's knee jerk reaction to do it anyway to show them , I let them go.
Letting folks manipulate you into doing something is as bad as letting them manipulate you out of doing something
No. Of course not. I don't rebel. I have seen women of all ages sport the cutest of fashions. Old ladies in baby doll shoes - it's so adorable. At the same time, if someone was to say I'm too old for something, I would just look at them like they were crazy for thinking they were the newly appointed fashion police.
I say "if the shoe fits, wear it". Before I was laid off, I wore short skirts and high heels. I was never told I was "too old" for my attire. Usually, I had the opposite reaction in strangers, who told me they thought I was younger than my age. I got compliments from men and women alike on the care I took with my personal appearance. Of course, the type of office would be a consideration in the appropriateness of a work wardrobe and is usually outlined and mandated by management.
Since my layoff, I do not wear the same kind of clothing, as my circumstances have changed. I remain capable of policing my own attire and reserve my right to do so without validation. Unless I asked someone for their opinion on my fashion sense, I would consider it rude, insulting and inappropriate for any stranger, having the audacity, to critique my clothing for any reason. Unless the comment was very aggressive, I would simply ignore it. As far as rebelling, I might say "Each to his own".
Someone once told me that I was too old to have long hair. I responded by growing my hair even longer. I don't know, I don't like to be judged, and I especially hate being told what to do.
when my husband and I got married, my mother-in-law told him that now I'd need to grow up, cut my hair short and behave myself
20 years later, still have beautiful waist length hair, and still do my thing.
Some people's approval's not worth having
WHAT did your "Monster-in-law" say? Oh my....bless your heart for 20 years of her!!
She didn't say anything to my face, as she's scared of me since I confronted her kindly/firmly about other sneakiness. Tried to get at me thru hubby, but we worked as a team
We currently do not have contact w/ her, as she's manipulatative and toxic
My 19 year old is always saying "Don't tell me what to do". His sense of timing for when he says it is hilarious. He got the attitude from somewhere. It couldn't be me:)
I like that question. No one has dared to tell me I am tooo old for that. They usually reference themselves.
I was told once that women at my age that let their hair grow long look older. My response was, "Oh, well. Guess I will look older."
I do what I want and wear what I am comfortable in.
Oh but TRY TO B THAT AND EVERYTHING ELSE- plus some! Or just say, " I am an OLD GOAT!"
Use it as motivation OR SAY WELL UR ______? Or just lol so hard in da face of u ppl in front of u-- then say boyyyya- see ya! Hey! Prove em wrong! Ahhh well I guess u r just too jealous! Or say no THAT COLOR just don't be working on me- my figure or my taste! It's fugly
noramally not rebel..however, depends on my mood and of the speaker as well......for some light humour its OK & i enjoy eqally..but , if someone tries the same in a taunting way...i'm not going to let him go as it is......i'll take that rule monger right & tell him his position!
I have been hearing this comment for too many years now. Till your are in your teens people say "you are too young for that". Once you enter your twenties till time immemorial people go on saying "you are too old for that". I feel we should leave them alone and do what you wish to do.

How old is too old to live with your parents? Is your opinion based on gender?

How to tell your parents you're dating a much older woman or man? When there's a HUGE age gap but it's time to introduce your new boyfriend or girlfriend to your parents. I think you should probably warn them beforehand? Any ideas about this topic?

Do you think age makes a person more mature?Whether you are 20 or 50 years old, do you think that the older you are, the more smarter you are because you have been through more in life?
