What do you do to start the day?
How do you get yourself up for those horrible 5am starts? What do you do to make sure you sleep a good night and don't carry on sleeping at work? What's the best way to wake yourself up in the morning?
It's terrible to say, Mountain dew and nicotine. I drink coffee in the winter. But, Inthe summer it's Mountain Dew and a hot, hot shower.
I walk our dogs on our area trails usually; except Saturday mourns when I get up drive to the rink and play ice hockey with abandon (if I may add). These are indeed great ways of spending your first hours after awakening. However, the trick is to get some significant delta wavelength sleep; the night before.
I usually start the day by doing a little warm-up just beside my bed. I do some cardiovascular exercise and stretching. After this, I do my bed , and prepare my usual breakfast. Then, I continue with the regular chores around the house.
So that you don't carry on sleeping at work, pretend that this is the most important day in your life and that you work in the best company in the world, even if it is not true.
Wake up, turn on the radio, start coffee, eat food, translate a page of spanish or french, then go off to school an hour away with coffee in hand for the drive.
The cats wake my husband and I up because they walk all over us when we are sleeping. They also purr in my face, nose-to-nose, getting my nose cold and wet. So even if we wanted to sleep in, we couldn't. So they basically demand I get up and feed them. After that I am pretty much awake!
Turn off the alarm, kiss my hubby on the cheek, take the dog out, jump in the shower. Do my hair and makeup while listening to Dennis Miller on the radio as I savor my diet dew before heading off to work.
I usually wake up, pour me a cup of coffee, sit on my porch and watch the sun come up over the mountains and... Okay, not really. Usually I am awakened by the sound of my 6 month old son crying or my husband asking me how to snap the cloth diapers together, again.
After a diaper change and boobie time, my son is usually active and wanting help walking around everywhere. I then take him to the kitchen with me so I can make breakfast and try to keep an eye on him while my husband gets ready for work. Usually the only thing that keeps me sane is a cup of hot green tea. That is, if I remember to make one during all the chaos that typically ensues when you have an infant.
Every day is a routine where I love waking up to see my smiling wife that makes my breakfast. With that smile, it brighten my day like the sunshine in the morning.
I wake up, start some tea, and then hop straight into the shower. I find that if I can just make it to the shower it'll wake me up!
I start by making coffee, coffee and more coffee. I make breakfast for my daughters, perform some calisthenics, shower and off to work. Done and done.
When my alarm goes off at 4:45 am I make myself turn on the lights and the radio. I stretch my back(good start for me) and sit up. I shower, shave, dress, eat, brush my teeth and head out. My retired father was in the Navy for years and then carried mail. He is still an early riser. At 6 am he swings his legs over the edge of the bed and sits straight up. He has done this for 58 years.
The enemy of a wakeful morning is the snooze - 9 minutes is not enough to do anything but make you more reluctant to roll out of the rack. 1) dump the snooze 2) if you must set two alarms one minute apart 3) make sure the room is as dark as possible 4) have as little sound as you can handle - white noise can help sleep 5) practice relaxation breathing at bed time - count one for in, two for out and empty your thoughts.
Nothing makes rising easier than the best night's sleep you can manage.
To be honest, if my alarm went off at 5AM, I'd throw the dang clock out the window. I'm usually going to bed around that time! When I get up, though, I usually want Pepsi and cigarette. I rarely drink coffee. I will take a caffeine pill sometimes daily, especially if I'm working on something.
I wake up and pray. I don't feel prepared for the day without reading some bible verses and other prayers first. It's like my "spiritual insurance" for getting through the day.
Five mins of meditation and then I'm ready to get started!
I help out starbucks and buy a dozen of their coffee and snacks. lol
Before getting out of bed, I like to repeat certain positive affirmations and then think of maybe 5 or 6 things to be grateful for. Helps me to keep things in perspective and focus on good stuff in my life rather than dwell on the not so good.
I say thanks to God for this day, meditate, I then get up and get myself showered and dressed for the day. I be sure I get a good breakfast and have what I will be taking out for the day ready to go. Depending on the time of the bus, I usually would get there 15-20 minutes early because sometimes traffic can be a trip. I look forward to a good day!
