What are the distinctions between personal power and inner strength?
And your favorite example of either or both....
These two are synonymous although there are obvious differences in the way they manifest to the physical world or the environment.
First, inner strength are intangible qualities of a person, whereas personal power are demonstrable qualities of a person that are not only noticeable by society but are also authoritative qualities that may compel or persuade others to follow, emulate or imitate, admire, agree, etc. the powerful personality.
Next, inner strength is derived from the acknowledgement, acceptance, conviction, etc., of one's inherent qualities or the generic qualities of the person and his/her ability to stretch or enhance those good qualities to the point of excellence; while personal power is the natural effects to others based on the inner inner strength at work.
And last; an example:
Let's say in the inner strength I acknowledge, believe, see myself, convinced myself to the core as being beautiful, intelligent, with exemplary high moral/spiritual values, and rich. I am thus convinced of my inner strength because I did everything to enhance my qualities and had proven these qualities as true in my life experiences and in all my dealings with other people in different walks of life.
As to be convinced of being beautiful; I had done all my beauty and healthy regiments that result to most people I associate agreeing on my charisma, charm, beauty and to some extent, having many sincere and serious admirers and suitors to tail and desire for my approval.
My conviction of having high moral and spiritual values come from my strong family foundation and orientation; and from my four years in a religious Missionary training; hence despite the various temptations for promiscuity, immorality, etc., caused by many suitors, I have the wisdom to select only one lover and be the faithful wife to the best man I had selected.
My belief in my intelligence come from the fact that I studied hard and had tested my intellectual capacity as evidenced when I graduated Magna Cum Laude in a prestigious State University with the degree in Economics and more degrees in MBA, Education and Social Sciences.
As to the belief that I am rich; I am never in poverty because I got a noble employment in which the compensation goes well with it.
To sum up; inner strength is the acknowledged, and enhanced inherent qualities of a person; whereas personal power is the natural tendency resulting from the inner strength.
It is charming (meant in the most sincere way) to follow your way of looking at this subject. I gain much, especially in understanding how others see it, from such an answer.
My first impulse was to consider the two concepts to be nearly antonyms. Through personal power, a person seeks to control the world around them, much like an addict or alcoholic would do. Through inner strength, a person seeks to control their own thoughts and behavior, much like a recovering addict or alcoholic would do. I do speak from personal experience on this one.
I know you do. There is something very enriching and satisfying to share these thoughts honestly with each other.
Only two thoughts stand out for me.
1) Personal power is our Confidence in ourselves
and
2) Inner strength is our Perseverance or our Resilience.
We can do anything we put our minds to (Confidence)
We only fail when we give up (Perseverance)
I like your two thoughts - and also your username, noturningback.
I guess with personal power, it gives you the will to find the strength inside oneself. Meaning, with personal power oyu can find the will to make impossible things possible. With Inner-Strength. Things such as drugs, or anything you try to fight against, helps you overcome that addiction or problem. In reverse though you can use inner-strength to help discipline yourself, to better yourself, that goes for something as small as a test to something as big as building a Corporation. So, I guess what I mean to say is, Personal power, is the strength of will, that allows you to have the inner strength, helping you make descison for better or worse.
Thank you for your input and participation!
Without reading anyone else's answer, I'd say that inner strength is necessary to create personal power. In other words, without inner strength, personal power may be a sham/bravado and/or it may not last. Personal power I think of as one's ability to influence "the outside" or "the other", meaning one's ability to effect change in ones environment and/or the people or other beings in it and perhaps even to affect the past or future. All of these things require inner strength; we can all think of at least one famous person whose apparent personal power turned out to be a sham/lots of hot air, and vice versa: one whose power was genuine. Inner strength also provides the personal power to not act on inappropriate feelings and to act even when to take such action may mean the death of the self.
Excellent points, and understood why you like to write without reading another answer, so it comes from you. I do the same, and then read others' views and usually adjust and expand my understanding. I especially like your last sentence.
1. Concerning "personal power," I would ask you, "What influence do you have over others?" Your influence over others, or your ability to affect the behavior of others, especially in a constructive manner, that is power, personal power if you want to call it that.
However,
2. Inner strength, that is something altogether different from personal power. Inner strength if the power that you have over yourself. That is, it is the power that you have to affect "your own" behavior.
That's enough.

What is your most reliable source of inner strength? Many people pray, others try making their thoughts positives, and still others just keep going despite feeling weak and apprehensive. How to gain strength when you are mentally terribly down and are feeling as if anything or anyone will crush you?
