How do you handle stress?
Im looking for HEALTHY coping mechanisms for stress.... What works for you?
what i normally do is take physical exercises, this is to get my mind relaxed. After i have done that i now look for a solution to my problem
I take time away from everyone and everything and do something I love. It doesn't have to be a long while, just enough to be able to step back, take a breath and regain my balance.
Breathing Techniques: When you wake up in the morning, take just a few minutes on the side of your bed or in a private setting and take 20 deep breaths with a 10 second exhale for each breath. If you commit to this and stay consistent, I promise you will see a decrease in stress in 1 week! Most of the time, stress is caused by anxiety which triggers irregular breathing...and breathing is crucial!
One word: Exercise! In today's society, it's so important to exercise, whether it be yoga, cardio or strength training. Exercise releases endorphins which boosts your mood and relieves stress. It's definitely helped me and it's a great way to stay in shape too, so it's a win-win situation. :-)
I guess I handle stress by eating ice cream and shopping, but I can see you are looking for HEALTHY ways to deal with it. I think that a good way to handle stress is to talk to a good friend. Sometimes an ear and a shoulder to cry on can be so healing. Also, getting away by yourself for just a few hours, having an iced latte or other somewhat healthy treat, and taking a walk or exercising while sorting your thoughts out can do wonders. Having time to strategize a plan to deal with responsibilities helps you feel more in control and empowered, and doing a bit of exercise makes you feel a sense of accomplishment. Also, relying on a power greater than you allows you to feel a sense of security and know that you can't fail in God's hands.

For me it's prayer, Bible reading and talking to my very supportive friends. Also, I love to walk. Works every time.
I handle stress by avoiding it in the first place by learning how to say "No" and by delegating the jobs or sharing the jobs that need doing at home or at work. But if I get stressed out I will go and work it out by doing some gardening in my backyard. Gardening is my hobby and also a way of letting off some stress in life. By just looking at the beautiful flowers and vegetables that I tend in my garden is just enough to cheer me up after a hard day's work. Gardening is a good way of letting go of stress but also you must learn to delegate some work to others.
I guess either I do not get it because I am calm and relaxed all of the time, or else the TV comedy shows which I watch do it. They are the only two things which I can think of.
Actually Jamison Link, if you breath through the nose when you do that you switch on the parasympathetic nervous system which switches off stress but you are 100% right. Breathing reduces stress. Nasal breathing or alternate nostril breathing not only switches off stress but can improve metabolism by up to 37% too so its a great weight loss tool <3

My answer during job interviews when ask how I handle stress is proper time management and knowing my priorities. But most of the time, when the work load is too much, it becomes hard to stick to these two rules! My queston is, how do you really handle stress?
