If you made changes in your diet, excerize, or gave up unhealthy habits...why did you? Was it to be healthier in general for the long run, or were you more motivated by wanting to feel better now?
What did you change?
Hope I worded that right, Thanks
From the year 2000, I do not eat fat anymore. no butter, no margarine, no cream. From the year 1982 I do not put sugar in my tea or coffee, or hot chocolate when I have one.
Since last month I stopped eating refined sugar at all. It's an addiction, it's hard to beat, I am still fighting it, but I will win.
I did it to have normal weight, healthy life. I do not want to have a stroke, or diabetis as many of my close relatives suffered from that. It's a terrible disease and i don't want it. And I decide that I am not going to contribute to it. When I stopped to eat fat ( and in my culture we ate it a lot), in 3(!!!) days I felt better. I could walk more and faster without being tired and I lost some extra pounds easily and effortlessly like a magic!
I wanted to feel better now. I think that's the best possible motivation.
I eliminated Coca-Cola from my diet as well as most empty carbs. The reward was immediate, not deferred. Feeling better really does pay off.
I started because I kept getting kidney infections and the doctors couldn't tell me why. So I started researching food on my own to get healthy. That was about 35 years ago. I still slip up now and then but it's ok.
8 years ago I stopped eating gluten (wheat, rye, barley) cold turkey because I found out it was slowly killing me. Who'da thought! lol.
I recently cut out all processed sugars, food additives like preservatives, sweeteners, and anything else man-made.
I didn't know how feeling good felt until I finally fed my body like it's programmed to eat.
I was motivated because, well, I'd never done it before. Everything's worth a try once, right?
Thanks for the input
We have made changes, some small and some more monumental.
Once aware of food additives and how food is processed, we made a big shift to purchase organic and or locally produced raw food.
We have learned more about nutritions impact on disease processes, too. Now we eat to target improving health issues. ie impacting ph levels, etc.
We have also been learning about energy medicine and other paths of healthy living.
Our motivations have been to both be healthier in the long run and to feel better now.
I am amazed at both the results of the changes, but making even small changes can be challenging
I do believe the changes will stick permanently and I am continuing to make more changes for improved health.
knowledge motivated me. I studied healthy nutrition and how the body works in college and decided I wanted to do whatever I could to live a healthy lifestyle. I'm not a health food nut, but I do advocate eating organic and local as much as possible. I eat hardly any processed food, no soda or sugary foods/drinks. I may eat lean red meat a few times a year, otherwise it's white meat or fish.
my weight has hardly changed, only this past year I gained a few pounds because I'm no longer working in the classroom, where I was on my feet most of the work day. but I'm still not overweight.
I agree with you that there's so much we can do to keep ourselves healthy rather than give in to convenience, etc.
that's great that you're feeling better!
When you are buying products - read the labels, please. Nowadays they put sugar even into dry spices!!!! Shame.
Being aware, there is so much information available today, that shakes you out of your ignorant ways. I keep changing so many thing about my life, when I am convinced that it is a good change to adopt in my life!
I changed my diet completely when my partner, who will become my wife in a year or so, moved in and took over my life. Half my age she wants me to live as long as possible so that we can be together longer, as she is the loveliest person imagineable I got persuaded and so started eating the Chinese way - huge immediate benefits from a diet that just 'does' all the healthy things we westerners normally just talk about or fad for a while. It takes some doing, giving up all that excess fat and sugar, dumping the body poison that is dairy, dumping all that candy and those ridiculous but addictive snacks in favour of one of the thousands of Chinese snacks that range from nuts to every kind of preserved fruits and vegetables to preserved tofu and even chickens feet - although I cannot yet bring myself to eat those.
The benefit is a steady weight loss to an almost normal size, feeling more healthy with never any stomach problems of any kind except the occasional puff of gas if one of the many kinds of normally used dried beans has been a bit over-done.
Wow you and china man are so much alike. Are you neighbors ROFL???
Is this cute little thing you 'mooning' me - or are you just very short with huge boobies
Hahahahahahaha
I think I just peed my pants ROFL.
just started back to a regular exercise routine now that I am off of (12 hr ) midnight shifts. WEll, that was the FIRST step towards improving my health. But, an opening on day shift just came through 2 weeks ago. I also have been eliminating things from my diet and eating more 'clean'. Just learning about that.
I have 2 lovely kids and I want to grow old and long enough to see them grow.

I've heard a lot lately about eating "raw" foods and how healthy it is supposed to be. Does anyone know about this and how you'd begin?
