Genital Herpes Symptoms and a Natural Treatment
Initial genital herpes sores
A real life experience with Gential Herpes Symptoms and Natural Treatments
I wanted to write a blog that is helpful to those of you who have been unfortunate enough to contract or been diagnosed with genital herpes. First off, let me say that I was diagnosed with the genital herpes virus a few years ago, it came out of no-where and at the time it appeared, I was dating someone. Needless to say, the pain I felt mentally over this, the mental and physical anguish and feeling my sexual life was over was very very intense. I want to share with you my story and what I went through to help you understand genital herpes symptoms as well as genital herpes treatments that are available. It is possible to keep genital herpes outbreaks from occurring.
Symptoms of genital herpes
When the initial symptoms for the first outbreak of genital herpes occurred, it felt like I had a few mosquito bites around the groin area. There were no visible pro-domes - (bumps that appear), it just felt very itchy. After the itchiness subsided, there were some bumps which are called pro-domes, needless to say it worried me quite a bit. The pro-domes got larger and larger and also the lymph nodes in my groin area may became very swollen, indications that my body was trying to fight something off. There is Herpes simplex 1 and Herpes simplex 2 , think of number 1 as the one you see on people's lips and number 2 as the sore that you get in your genital area.
During the onset of the first occurrence, these pro-domes got very large, almost to the size of a golf ball. This all happened over a weekend so my primary care physician was not available, so I went to a clinic. One look at the area and the attending physician said "Genital herpes outbreak". I was blown away! I even went to my primary care physician , he looked at it and said "don't worry it isn't genital herpes". The diagnosis is done with a blood test to see if a specific antigen is present in your blood , they may also swab the area to take a culture of the outbreak area. I never had a fever present with the symptoms of genital herpes. Unfortunately, my tests came back positive and there are at times you can get a false positive which would require a re-test.
Exercise, release of stress
It is important you find a way to keep your stress levels lower than usual if you are a high strung type of individual. Try to find something that a releases stress, there is evidence that a genital herpes outbreak is more common when someone is highly stressed. So running, working out, meditation, martial arts, reading, relaxing in a hot tub, going on a hike or vacation any of these or any hobbies you have that will relax you will help.
Gential Herpes Symptoms
Needless to say, you may go through a lot of mental anguish, a million questions will hit your mind when you find out the genital herpes virus is part of your life now. Here are some things that you may encounter like I did:
- Anger- anger at the partner that gave this to you knowingly or unknowingly
- Grief and pain- sadness and depression
- Numbness or denial that it can not be
- Hopelessness- feeling your sex life is over and the potential for a relationship with someone is gone
- Worry and fear- what is going to happen to me?
The reality is that all of these feelings must be felt, let them in and feel them. I know it is a tough list and a tough thing to do but you have to face up to what you have and know you are not going to die from it. And trust the fact , that time heals all and it is going to take some time for you to get over this. If you have a partner that cares about you, they can help you and they should not abandon you if they really do care about you. Take time for yourself and let time heal. If necessary, visit a therapist to gain some mental perspective on things to give you a clearing so you can move on.
Relationships and dating with genital herpes.
You will read on the web that genital herpes is very contagious, don't let all the reading get you in a tizzy. I can honestly tell you that I had sex even after I knew I had it and my partner knew it as well. We had unprotected oral sex and intercourse and she never came down with the herpes virus. How do I know? She was tested. The question that will arise is , how do I tell someone I have genital herpes? Should I tell them? Well, the question is about ethics, and you should ask yourself the following:
- How did I feel when I was diagnosed and a former partner did not tell me?
- How would I feel if I did that to someone else? Would I want someone I care about to feel the same feelings I had?
Realize that there is a 1 in 4 chancethat a person can contract genital herpes in today's world , it is prevalent and it is here and there is no denying it. Bottom line, do not have sex when you have the feeling an outbreak is coming on or it is present. Also, I would not suggest you tell someone on your first date, " I have genital herpes" unless you feel you are going to have sex on the first date.
Genital herpes treatments
You can keep genital herpes outbreaks away significantly. From personal experience, the outbreaks at the beginning are more numerous. I can honestly tell you that from my experience that the frequency of outbreaks has gone away for me and it should for you as well.. Proof: about 4 months ago in December of 2010 , I had a ton of stress and felt for sure I was going to have an outbreak and it never occurred! Why? Well one thing I have done is power up my immune system and you should do the same. So here are some things you can do with natural genital herpes preventive measures and genital herpes treatmentsto keep your outbreaks from coming back.
Genital Herpes Treatments and improving your immune system
Genital herpes natural treatments and beefing up your immune system
The following is the regimen that has worked for me and has kept genital herpes outbreaks out of my life for quite some time now approximately 8 months. I have used or use all of these below and they have worked!
H-Balm- a topical herbal lotion that you apply to the sores, this topical liquid will dry up the herpes sores and kill the virus. You should apply this at the first signs of an outbreak, it works within a few days and drys it up quickly. The manufacturer also suggest you apply H-Balm to the bottom of your spine where the virus resides when it is dormant. It looks like the FDA pulled this product cause every site says "No stock"
Manuka Honey- this is a special honey that is made from bees in New Zealand from a specific bush (really no kidding!). The honey has strong antiseptic properties and you can apply this directly onto the sores, it will dry them up quickly.
Vitamin D3- this vitamin is manufactured naturally in our skin when sunlight hits it , it supports your immune system . I take 400 IU's per (1 Tablet)
Vitamin E- 400 IU's per day (1 tablet) helpful for indiviudals experiencing a lot of stress or illness canceling out free radicals in your system.
Chlorella - an detoxing agent that gets rid of internal toxins and powers up your immune system, the more powerful your immune system the less chance of you having frequent outbreaks. 2 tablets per day Lysine- whether this really works or not is a mystery to me, I read about it on the web and tried it but it was a placebo and didn't do anything. I would not waste my money , but every body is different and it may help you.
Prescription drugs- Famvir, Acyclovir and Valtrex- Famvir and Acyclovir are generic these days and very affordable, the dosage is supposed to be 800mg per day or 2 tablets. I only take 400mg per day or 1 tablet and do not need to take anymore than that. This is a suppression therapy that keeps the virus from surfacing in your body.
If you take this regimen from my experience you will have good success with it, everybody's body is different but i can tell you honestly it has worked for me big time! Best of luck to you!
