global domination

Updated on May 2, 2011

There is a certain type of person who has emerged from the cradle of our society and continues to be a phenomena which is passed down from one generation to the next. Since the dawn of time there have been tyrants who are so motivated to exercise control over the masses that they will say or do anything to cater to the crowd in order to rise to the top.

It doesn't matter what type of organization this personality type belongs to, because they are a presence in all forms of thought and philosophy. They can be found in both social, and political arenas, in the work place, the schools, and especially the media and government.

I believe that the most appropriate method of classifying this group is "type-A personality". A short definition of the typical type A can be found in the encyclopedia as; "ambitious, aggressive, business-like, controlling, highly competitive, impatient, preoccupied with his or her status, time-conscious, and tightly-wound. People with Type A personalities are often high-achieving "workaholics" who multi-task, push themselves with deadlines, and hate both delays and ambivalence"

In several instances with today's society my observation has been that this type of person is suppressed in the work place by their piers. It is usually their friends and family members who endure the brunt of their behavior. Although it seems that the percentages of these people seem to be advancing to the point that there are sometimes multiple type-A's at the same profession working in opposition of one another.

Personally I have been exposed to many type-A's in the workplace and their influence seems to pull the entire crowd into the pool with them. You find that easily influenced people become more aggressive and assertive in their daily communications. I've even found myself acting out in a like manner when paired up with a type-A for several days on a project.

common traits

1.)They will fight hard to get their way, if they don't get their way they pull a consensus of everyone involved and talk them into agreeing with them. They will get as many people to side with them as possible in order to establish a backing.

2.)They will take you to the fence on every issue. in extreme cases I've dealt with some who give you no room to speak.

3.)They make it impossible for others to express an extended vocabulary by questioning every big word that they hear.

4.) They dominate the conversation and will seek to take it over and change it over to their own interests.

5.) They only laugh at their own jokes, and belittle the jokes other people tell by saying things like; "That was a lame joke." "That was stupid," or they will purposefully not get the joke and make you explain it to everyone until it is no longer valid.

6.) They kick and scream, and act like little children when they don't get what they want.

7.) When arguing with someone they get easily frustrated and become irate just so people will agree with them in order to calm the situation.

8.) When they become agitated about something everyone around them has to walk on egg shells out of respect to their dire circumstance.

9.) They reason with others that their harsh actions are due to a rough upbringing. like most bullies they act as a victim in many instances in order to justify their outrageous behavior.

10.) They manipulate people into doing small favors for them in order to get people used to the idea of taking orders from them. This is a very effective form of manipulation because they are actually training you to take commands from them much like a dog listens to the voice of their master.

11.) They will cater to the ego of anyone who is their superior to them. They will laugh at their jokes, listen attentively to what they have to say, and act as though they are learning something, when in truth they feel that they already know everything they need to know. In this way they will take advice from no one but the boss, and even then they will only follow the bosses guidance in order to get in good with him or her.

All of this is a one way street. They could care less about the concerns or emotions of the people who are around them, and they will only express interest in what you have to say when they want something from you. If you ask them for a favor they might do it, but it will be at great cost to your one way friendship. They will make excuses not to do anything for you because you are being lazy IE. "come on dude, do I really have to get that for you? you're just sitting there." They however are too busy to do anything for themselves because their time is more valuable than anyone els's.

Combating this type of manipulation can be a challenge. Don't be afraid to use their own words against them. Act like you have something that needs your immediate attention. They will confront you about it, but never give them the upper hand, you need to fight back or they will be your own personal "alpha dog" for the rest of your carrier. It's a tough battle but remember that everything you do for them allows them to establish dominance over you and others.

In the history of the world there have been many people who have pushed their way to the top aggressively and with extreme confidence but knowing little about what they are doing. They have historically held society back and it is possible that we could be much more advanced as a civilization if we had actually listened to people who knew what they were talking about instead of listening to the best debater or story teller

Yes socioty has actually been dragged down and often our advancment has been driven to a screamimn halt by those who think their way is the best. They don't explore the possibilities and they speak with their ears shut and eyes closed.

Sorry about the rant, but I am literally surrounded by them at work.

Great hub and so true. Unfortunately, too many of them are the law makers and hold positions of extreme power.
