You Deserve to be Happy
Have you ever looked at people around you and wondered why they are so happy? What is their secret? What do they know that you don't know? They don't have a better house or car than you, why are they more content with their lives than you are?
Does it feel as if you are constantly walking under a grey cloud?
Life doesn't need to be like that. You can choose your mood. Why choose to make yourself feel so unhappy. You deserve to be happy. Don't look to someone else to do that, happiness starts from within.
1. Be Kind to Someone
Being kind to people is easy and is one of the best ways to increase your own level of happiness. You probably have the opportunity several times a day. Here are a few examples.
- Hold the door open for someone.
- Offer to reach something for an elderly person at a grocery store.
- Let someone go ahead of you in line.
- Ask a neighbor that doesn't drive if they need a lift.
There are so many opportunities to help that will mean so much to someone else. These simple acts of kindness will also start to have an impact on you. The feeling of helping others and making a difference to someone is one of the best ways to increase your happiness levels.
2. Contact Friends and Family
Sometimes it is easy to let too much time go by without contacting those we care about.
Relationships are good for your health. People with strong relationships are more likely to live longer. These can be with a partner, children, or friends.
Visit, call, or email them and arrange to meet up. Enjoy their company and laugh and you'll start to feel that grey cloud lifting.The boost of happiness is waiting for you, contact your friends and family now.

If you are feeling low at the moment, it may feel awkward to smile at nothing but try it. Now try smiling at someone else. Guess what, they'll smile back. It is this interaction , even if it is with someone you don't know that will start the serotonin flowing and give you a sense of happiness and well being. Phyllis Diller said it well.

4. Practice Gratitude
It is difficult to see the things you have to be grateful about at times. Still, try every day to list 3 things which happened during the day for which you are grateful. This doesn't have to be big things, it could be something such as finding a close parking space.
The object of doing this is it trains your mind to notice the positive things in your life.
We are what we think we are and if you think you are fortunate enough to receive these blessings you will receive more.
5. Exercise for Happiness
If the thought of exercise feels you with dread, ask yourself why.
What is it that you don't like? Is it the crowded gym full of posing sweating people? Or do you hate the idea of going for a jog or a walk by yourself? Exercise can be what you want it to be.
If you prefer to go to a gym or exercise to a video at home, that is okay. Just get that body moving. People who exercise are less likely to be depressed. Keep at it and soon you will be looking forward to it.
I personally found the best time for me, was early morning. I would get out of bed and before I could begin another task, I'd go to the gym.
6. Stop and Smell the Roses
Lessen your hectic lifestyle, learn to slow down and appreciate how much beauty your world has in it. If you are constantly busying yourself doing mindless tasks, you will never be happy. Take time out, calm down and enjoy life.
Often we have to look at children to realize how to enjoy life and have fun again. If you ever watch kids play, they have happiness figured out. They run and play without worries or pre-planning.
Take time out for yourself and don't think that you could be spending your time better.
An investment in YOU is a great use of your time.
7. Forgive People
If you are harboring feelings of a failed relationship, be it a marriage or a friendship, move on. It will eat away at you. Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Stop allowing yourself to think of the other person, nothing good will come of it. An ending of a relationship produces the same feelings of grief experienced when someone dies. It is the death of a relationship.
It isn't easy but when you come out of the other side, you will look back and think you spent too long worrying about things you couldn't change. If you can genuinely wish only good things for the other person and yourself and go your separate ways you will start the process of healing.
Many people get stuck in a cycle of blame from which they won't allow themselves to emerge, it affects not only their lives but those around them. Perhaps they feel it is easier to blame someone else for their shortcomings than to reclaim their own life. It may not be your fault that something bad happened to you, but it is your responsibility to live your life to its fullest. You don't get a second chance.
8. Set Goals
Decide to set goals. I am not referring to the goals for today. Think long term goals, 5 years, 1 year, 6 months and next month.
Make these goals tangible and stick to them. People work better when they have a plan. Without a goal, target, or purpose you are just a ship bobbing around aimlessly in very large ocean.
Commit, plan, act.
9. Be Optimistic
Every morning when you wake, you have the opportunity to choose how you are going to feel. Are you going to go around like a bear with a sore head or are you going to be optimistic, put a smile on your face, and go out and shout to the world, "Come on!"
You can be your own cheering squad or your own lead weight, the decision is yours. I know which I'd choose.

10. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
If you compare yourself to other people, you may feel like an under-achiever which will make you unhappy. There will always be people with more money, better looking, or a better career. This is a toxic situation to put yourself in. You don't know what struggles other people have been through or are currently dealing with. Their problems may be worse than yours. Never compare yourself to others, it will suck the joy out of you.
The only person you should compare yourself to is your younger self. You will see how far you have come.
11. Money Worries
If one of the reasons you are feeling depressed is because of debt, it is imperative that you get control of this issue and sort it. Feeling bad about money worries is counter productive. The only way to tackle these issues is head on.
