The subject of wind is something of a taboo in today's society, with people not wanting to address the subject - even if trapped wind is causing them real discomfort.

The fact is that trapped wind is perfectly natural and can happen to just about anyone. It is simply the build up of gas in the intestinal tract of our bodies. With trapped wind the gas (usually carbon dioxide naturally emitted from our breaking down of food) becomes trapped in the digestive tract, causing us discomfort and sometimes even real pain.

This discomfort comes from the gas pressure pushing against the intestinal walls - and causing blockages for other food stuffs to travel along our intestines. All perfectly natural, but a problem that needs solving sooner rather than later. Thankfully there are a number of natural remedies that we can use to answer the problem of how to get rid of trapped wind.

Trapped Wind Remedies

Herbal Supplements That Can Help

There are numerous herbal supplements that work well as trapped wind remedies. Not every one works on every body but the herbs below give a good over view of natural remedies that many people find to be useful when they look for how to get rid of trapped wind.

  • Chinese Bitters. These are a fantastic blend of Chinese herbs that you can buy in pre-made form. They work on the gut solving all sorts of problems - such as constipation, indigestion and importantly trapped wind.

They have the added benefit of helping purge toxins form the body, boosting the liver. If the trapped wind is from decomposing food that are releasing toxins this is a very useful secondary benefit.

  • Epzote Herb. This amazing herb has been used in Mexico to help prevent flatulence for hundreds of years - and given how much of their diet is beans that can only be a good thing.

Whilst it won't help you get rid of trapped wind by itself when taken in combination with another herbal supplement such as Chinese bitters it does help to have the wind removed more discretely - nobody wants to learn how to get rid of trapped wind simply to have to endure flatulence!

  • Mugwort Herb. The mugwort herb is very useful as it helps to clear the digestive tract. When you think that trapped wind is usually caused by blockages from food stuff which cause the buld up of gas pressure you realise that the mugwort herb could be just what you need to help you get rid of trapped wind.

Western Medicine

Obviously there are other ways of getting rid of trapped wind using Western medicine – but all too often we turn to such medications for things that natural remedies could cure us of. This is a problem because we, and bugs etc, start building up an immunity to the medicines, meaning they are less powerful when we do need them.

Using herbal remedies to help with how to get rid of trapped wind is easily the most sensible way to go.

Well I have woken up with trapped wind and tried and tested the majority of the remedies posted on here and other web sites. I drank flat coke, sipped hot water whilst sucking a mint, tried positions recommended. Rubbing my tummy while laying flat on my back got some wind up but the clear winner was a hot bath!!! Highly recommended!!! Just if your like me and its 2.30 am just try not wake up your husband or wife!!! Not only does it soothe the pain, laying on your tummy in a hot bath seems to do the trick!!

I just press my hands against my chest and slowly push them down my body, often relieves the pressure and helps release some of the wind. Saw it on a programme once where a pool cue was used to do so. Works a treat
