What Causes Warts?

It must be frogs, right? Well, it’s time to end the myth about frogs and warts which your good old aunt introduced to you when you were little. Warts are actually caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). When you get into contact with the virus, it can enter the body through breaks in the skin such as wounds and cuts.

8 Ways to Get Rid of Warts Fast

1. Try tape therapy.

Have you heard about duct tape therapy? Believe it or not, this is a proven and effective warts treatment. A study has shown that tape therapy eliminated warts about 85 percent of the time. If you don’t have a duct tape, an adhesive tape works just as well. All you have to do is wrap the wart with four layers of tape. Do not wrap it too tightly. Leave it for six days then remove it for a day. If the wart is still there, do the procedure again until it is completely removed.

2. Use baking soda.

Put baking soda in a bowl filled with water. Let the baking soda dissolve then soak your hand or foot in it. Allow your hand or foot to dry naturally.

3. Soak in hot water.

You can also try soaking your hand or foot in hot water. This helps kill the virus and makes the warts soft. Make sure that the water is not too hot to cause burns and irritation.

4. Use garlic.

Get a garlic and crush it. Rub it on your wart then wrap a bandage afterwards. After 24 hours, remove the bandage and repeat the process if necessary.

5. Boost your immune system.

To help fight and kill the virus, eat foods that boost your immune system. Eat garlic, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

6. Use over-the-counter warts treatment.

There are a lot of wart-removal medications on the market which contain salicylic acid. Salicylic acid softens the layers of the skin and irritates the wart, which causes the immune system to fight the virus more aggressively. Make sure that you use salicylic acid only on the infected area.

7. Check with your doctor.

If you have tried the home remedies above but still unable to get rid of warts, consult your doctor immediately. Doctors have a lot of ways to remove warts including laser treatment, cryosurgery, and burning the wart. More importantly, what you think is a wart might be something else more serious so don’t hesitate consulting an expert.

8. Wait it out.

Warts are generally harmless and disappear on their own after 6 months to a couple of years. You can just wait it out and save yourself from all the hassle of trying to get rid of them.

How to Prevent Warts

After getting rid of warts successfully, you most likely do not want to see those bumps again. Here are simple tips on how to prevent warts:

  • Wash your hands often. This is especially advisable for children. Washing your hands with soap and water before touching any part of your body helps keep virus at bay.
  • Avoid touching your warts. Warts are contagious, and you can spread the virus yourself if you keep on touching your warts. If you do not want to infect others or re-infect yourself, just leave your warts alone.
  • Wear waterproof sandals. Your feet make the perfect home for the warts-causing virus. By going barefoot, you expose your feet to the virus and risk yourself of getting warts.
  • Keep dry. Warts love moist environments. If you have sweaty hands and feet, use medications to help keep them dry.
  • Cover breaks in the skin. The virus will make its way towards the openings in your skin and enter your system. You can prevent warts by simply covering wounds and cuts.

Emma B., I'm not quite sure what you mean. As mentioned above, dissolve baking soda in water then soak your hand or foot in it. As for the garlic, crush it then rub it on your warts. Hope this helps.
