If you are just finding out you have type 1, 2, or gestational diabetes you are probably trying to find ways to lower your blood sugar. You may think that cutting sweets is the only thing that will help you. This is not the case. Here are 3 tips that will help you stabilize your blood sugar levels.

Start the Day Off Right

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You cannot feed yourself donuts or egg and cheese sandwiches and expect your sugar levels to go down. Make sure you eat a healthy meal that includes complex carbohydrates (like multi grain bread or cereal). Make sure to include lots of protein as well. Proteins are easier for the body to break down than carbohydrates.

Sugars Are Not the Culprit

The most important thing to understand about how your body breaks food down, is that carbohydrates are turned into sugars within your body. To keep your body from producing extra insulin you should eat a balanced diet with fewer carbs and more protein. You should continue to eat carbs, but don't eat simple carbs like white bread. Make sure to eat multigrain bread or whole grain pasta when you chose to eat.

Beware Of Fruits

Fruits can raise your blood sugar. Although you need to eat fruits and veggies every day, make sure that you modify your intake of fruits. Fruit contains natural sugar that may increase the levels within your body. Keep to a daily recommended dose that is approved by your doctor with anything you eat.

Eating snacks in between meals could become good practice.

Try to go for six small meals a day.
