Preparing for Lasik Eye Surgery

Stop wearing your contact lenses.

If you wear contact lenses, you will have to stop wearing them and start wearing glasses at least a few weeks prior to your surgery. Talk to your doctor about this, as the time will vary depending on what type of contact lenses you wear and for how long you've been wearing them.

Stop using makeup.

Stop using makeup, lotions, perfumes, and creams as these substances may cause debris to get in to your eyes. Thoroughly wash your eyes before going to your appointment to diminish the chances of infection.

Take time off from work.

Arrange to take time off from work for at least a couple of days to permit your eyes to heal. Some people may return to their normal lives more quickly than others, ask your doctor how long he recommends.

Arrange for a ride home after the surgery.

You won't be able to drive, so you'll need to arrange for a way to get back home. If someone will be waiting at the doctors office for you make sure they know it will take several hours and the doctor may want you to wait another half hour after the surgery before allowing you to leave.

Know what Lasik surgery is going to cost you.

Lasik eye surgery is usually thought of as an elective surgery so most insurance companies won't cover the cost of the surgery. Be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for your expenses.

Remember you get what you pay for so the "Lasik On Wheels" guy may not be your best long-term option.
