Key to Success: The 3 Must-Have Keys to Be Successful in Life

Updated on June 22, 2012

Are You Successful?

"Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it." ~ Maya Angelou

What is success for you? What does it mean? Lots of money, recognition, power, fulfillment, happiness? It means different things to different people, still I think there are overlapping things that you usually call success. But success alone is not enough. What I would suggest you aim to is success and fulfillment which leads to true happiness.

I don't think success is one big thing or one thing to do right. There is this concept of constant and nerver-ending improvement (short: CANI) which is derived from the japanese Kaizen. It means that you accumulate small steps to success everyday that makes a big success eventually. Still, we have to do get the basic things in order.

So what leads to success? I identified the 3 keys that not only lead to success but also personal fulfillment:

The 3 Keys to Success

The first essential key to success in life is that you just have to love what you do. When you are passionate about your topic and really love it long-term, it pulls you through all the difficult phases that you have to go through.

Also it is essential to reach happiness and fulfillment with what you do. So especially for long-term it is necessary. Some successful people say they would even pay someone to do what they do. That kind of passion drives you to your own success naturally.

The second key to success is your own ability. Do you have natural talents for what you set out to accomplish? Is it easy for you in a way, when the same thing is hard for others?

You have to find your voice eventually, which means you have to find what is unique in you, that you can offer. That makes you outstanding and that is your best skill.

While the first and second key to success in life are personal or internal traits, the third is external. Eventually success is about people. You have to produce value for others in order to get anything back. When you serve other people you also will feel much more fulfilled than just thinking about yourself all the time. So you can say you have to have people liking what you have to offer - there has to be a market for it.

Now sometimes in the beginning of an idea people don't know yet that they could like your idea. This is true with many innovative ideas and it is because the mainstream users are not thinking innovative but practical. So don't feel discouraged if you get bad feedback too early. The key is that it has the potential to satisfy people eventually.

Matching all 3 Keys to Success to Find Your Sweet Spot

So how do we put all these 3 essential keys together to ensure that we have to right strategy to be successful?

If you think about all 3 areas and ask the following 3 questions you will see how your potential for success is:

1. Do I really love it; for a long time ahead?

2. Am I naturally good at it? Do I have the potential to be outstanding, the best?

3. Do people like it and want more of what I provide?

Answer those questions for you and if you get a definitive no, try to adjust and refine your plan to get to a clear yes!

I wish you all the success in the world for your self growth and overall goals in life!
