Top 7 Life Coaching iPhone And Web Apps

Updated on February 6, 2012

Can technology bring the spark back to your coaching?

Are your coaching sessions getting a little stagnant? Do you have a tough time getting (and maintaining) your client's focus during coaching sessions? What you need is to bring a little technology to your coaching relationships! The following 7 web and iPhone coaching applications are the leading cusp of technology and coaching. Read on to find one that works for you, and your clients!

1. Mindbloom

A super slick app that brings a video game like interface to life coaching. It should come as no surprise that one of the co-founders used to make his living developing video games for Electronic Arts. If you have not seen Mindbloom yet and you are interested in coaching, then you need to take 10 minutes out of your day and check it out. Seriously, right now!

The only possible downside here is that because it is so video game like, it takes a long time to move around the site. The first couple times you move between screens the animations blow your mind. But after awhile, they become somewhat cumbersome. Regardless, this is the more polished coaching app on the market.

2. Noomii

Somewhat the opposite of Mindbloom. Gone are the flashy animations but in their place you have a user friendly interface that just works. Noomii also offers an SEO-friendly directory of life coaches to help them get clients and a free package that lets everyone play gratis. Clients do not have to pay a dime, which is a big bonus for coaches.

The downside is of course the more simple interface. The graphics will not leave you speechless and calling your kids/colleagues over to have a look, but it does what it is supposed to do. And at the end of the day that is what matters!

3. Life Balance

Llama Graphics have put together this simple and intuitive app that helps you prioritize your life thereby freeing up more time for you to spend on the things that matter to you. Working with Life Balance leaves more time for you to spend on your hobbies, with your family or just plain relaxing.

The product is geared at professionals and is designed for those on the go with iPhone and Palm applications as well as desktop versions for both Mac and PC.

Although, Life Balance is a straightforward tool, it does a great job of keeping its users focused on the parts of their life that really matter. For a busy professional the $20 price tag is a pittance and could be the difference between a happy fulfilled life and one that is overwrought with work. Coaches working with busy professionals will find the price tag worthwhile!

4. Remember The Milk

Perhaps the most integrated todo list on the planet, Remember the Milk (RTM) will follow you (and your todo lists) everywhere but the shower!

Imagine that you are out and about. Suddenly, something that you HAVE to do, pops into your mind. Why scribble on the back of your hand or trust that leaky memory of yours? With Remember the Milk, you can tweet yourself, add a calendar event or set it to your iGoogle desktop from your iPhone or Android phone and BOOM! Your reminder is synced across all of your digital touchpoints.

In addition, a bunch of third-party developers are getting in on the fun with RTM and making applications that will bring this nifty todo list to more desktops and mobiles around the world!

You know what? With a waterproof phone you could even get your reminders in the shower!

Coaches Console

5. Coaches Console

Coaches Console is the gold standard by which all Customer Relationship Management (CRM) coaching tools are measured. This is a great established player in the field. The website has recently undergone a much needed spruce up and put the focus back on the impressive client testimonials.

The downside to Coaches Console is that there is a bit of a learning curve to the software. Your subscription comes with 3 training sessions, but not every coach is willing to work with software that requires that level of commitment to use. If you are looking for a CRM to help you manage your clients better, this is one solution. If you are willing to commit!

Life Tick

6. Life Tick

Another one of the top goal-setting applications, Australia-based LifeTick, offers a simple user interface and an exceptional set of features that are amongst the best out there. There is a free option that offers limited functionality (track up to 4 goals) that gives you a great taste of the usefulness of this application.

There is also some great information on-site about coaching and how to get the most out of the experience, and the software. Compared to the other options, this is a great value and prove to be an extremely resource in a coaching relationship.

43things.com
43things.com

7. 43Things.com

Perhaps it is not life coaching in name, but 43things is certainly life coaching in nature.

The premise is that you arrive at the site, see a list of a goals that other people have publicly committed to. See something you like, cheer the person on or take up the cause yourself. The community can cheer you for achieving a milestone along the way and there is a denouement as you are asked to let the world know exactly how the experience made you feel. Sound familiar to all the coaches out there? The only difference here is that it is all community based. There are no professional coaches charging fees to engage in the goal setting behavior.

So how can you use this as a coaching tool? If you have a client stumped on what they should strive for, there is no better place to look than here. The goals range from the noble (Follow A Budget) to the optimistic (Fly To Space) to the down right zany (Get Arrested). Although, I can't really recommend coaching for the last one... even though most coaching is still done over the phone!

In Spanish there is a free app Mentormy, a very good app that helps you keep all your staff and enhance the coaching process including your successes and your findings.

Great list. I would also include ChallengeLoop in the list. You can create challenge for your clients based on their goals. They then accept the challenge and post updates with photos and videos. Their friends can even go and root them on.

These look like great suggestions to me, but I have found that for me, human interaction is the best way for me to improve, especially with executive coaches. With the technology based support, I would tend to get distracted, but when I am paying for another person to help me do better in the workplace, I find that I can focus better. Don't get me wrong, I think these programs are great, and I know lots of people who use them successfully, but I need a more human interaction. Does anyone else feel the same?

We have just lauched a Coaching and self-esteem app designed to help the user develop and expand an appreciation of their qualities and strengths. It would definitely have applications in the Life Coaching sector, and could be used in a targeted way for people looking to develop particular areas of their life. The app is called Confidence Coach, and has been developed by 2 British Clinical Psychologists. More information is available at www.i-therappy.com.

Created by Cal Ripken's Former VP of Marketing, www.coachswire.com is the best coach's tool currently available. Hope you are able to check it out and add it to this list. We appreciate it! This app is a huge time saver and allows the coach of any sport to focus on coaching and not the administrative aspect of coaching.

@DiscoveryCounse: Well actually, Noomii and Coaches Console are both designed for coaches to manage their client relationships. Have you tried either of those options? Noomii has a free-to-try account.

Interesting information. These might be great apps for people who are working with a life coach, but as a life coach I am not sure how to utilize them in a session.

You should really check out AWARENESS! It works by intercepting the user in the day-to-day activities with a random "gong" sounds then helps them check in with their emotional state by asking "what are you feeling right now?" It leads them through a brief video meditation then provides a diary linking feelings to activities over different time frames.

We would love for you to review our new coaching app - www.mythinkpal.com! It's totally different from all other coaching apps we've found on the market and would actually work very well in conjunction with some of those listed here. It focuses purely on feeding randomized provocative, powerful questions to help clients think through their challenges and then gives users the opportunity to record 'aha' moments and 'notes to self' to help keep them on track when they need a boost. We designed it as a tool for coaches to offer clients as part of their packages to maintain the connection between sessions, and to train clients to 'self-coach' to deepen learning along the way. Please email us at hello@mythinkpal.com for a promo code! We welcome feedback from everyone! Thanks.
