Liquid Fast Diet

The Liquid Fasting Diet: What You Need to Know

Ever thought about trying to lose weight using a liquid only diet? Think these diets are just a hoax? Actually, these liquid diets can be quite healthful if they are undertaken properly. While not as stressful to your body as a water-only fast you can still reap many of the benefits of cleansing your system and well as giving the organs of your digestive system a much deserved break. Juice diets also allow you to take in the nutrients your body needs to be healthy and repair itself. If you want to know more about liquid fasting diets, read on.

In a liquid fasting diet, generally everything you consume is run through a juicer or blender. In fact, most experts on the liquid fasting diets recommend you invest in a good juicer if you plan to try this diet. They caution against using a blender since blended foods still contain fiber which causes the digestive system to have to work just as it would if you were eating whole foods. A juicer will result in a product that is purely the juice of whatever you intend to consume.

You may wonder why the emphasis on making things easy for the digestive tract. When you give your digestive tract a break, your body is able to divert the energy it usually uses digesting your food into healing your body. The immune system also works hard trying to combat all the bacteria and toxins we take in through the food we eat. By eating less processed foods we also free up our immune systems to fight the diseases attacking our other organs and systems.

So, why should you try a liquid fasting diet? You should try it mainly because they are full of the vitamins and minerals the body needs to work properly. Juice is an excellent fuel for the body. Juices also help flush the body of toxins which can in turn leave you feeling and being healthier.

Drinking fresh juices can also help to boost the immune system, helping it to do an even better job of cleaning out poisons and repairing the body. Juice fasting can also help to remove excess fatty tissues which results in weight loss. Some have lost 20 - 100 pounds of excess fat while observing a liquid fasting diet.

How exactly do I go about a liquid fasting diet? First, you should decide how long you want to fast. Obviously, the longer you fast, the more toxins you will remove from your system and the more fat you will likely lose. A liquid fasting diet can last anywhere from three days to 40 days. Next, decide how much juice you will need to drink each day. This amount will depend on how much work you plan to do and how intense you wish your detoxification to be. The smaller the amount of juice you drink, the more intense your detox will be. However, you also need to take into consideration how much activity you will be doing and increase your juice intake accordingly.

The benefits of a liquid fasting diet well outweigh any discomfort you may feel while on the diet. You will experience increased vitality, cleansing from toxins and weight loss.

I just started a liquid fast but it seems like everyone on here is talking about a veggie and fruit juice fast but on mine I also drink tomato soup and organic chicken broth drinkable yogurt diet hot cocoa and crystal light, am i doing the fast wrong? will having these things take away from the benefits of doing a fast? and should you exercise while doing this and how many cals should you be taking in a day?

I'm doing in the process of a liquid fast. So far day 9. I been using the super greens like Macro greens 3x daily. I mix with half distilled water and 1/2 apple juice = 8 oz. I also add about a teaspon of blackstrap molasses unsuphured for energy has potassium and iron. So far so good. Feel pretty good. let me know if there is I can do to maximize weight loss. I plan to fast for at 40 days or more. Lots of weight to loose 120 lbs.

Instead of fasting to lose weight, which eventually you will most probably put back on, why dont you look at your life style. Eat healthy and exercise consistently. Check out Dr Robert Young for an extremely vitalising way of living..

I STARTED 4 DAYS AGO... USING THE MASTER CLEASE PROGRAM... ISNT WORKING OUT SO WELL FOR ME SO FAR... I CHEATED ON THE FIRST NIGHT WITH A HANDLE FULL OF BABY CARROTS... AND ON THE SECOND NIGHT WITH 4 BABY CARROTS... SO I CANT SAY I AM GOING A TRUE LIQUID FAST... TODAY THOUGH I CANT HELP BUT NOTICE THAT I AM HAVING LESS HUNGER PAINS... MAYBE TODAY I WILL ACTUALLY GET THROUGH THE WHOLE DAY WITHOUT CHEATING AT ALL... BUT IF NOT I CANT HELP BUT THINKING THAT EVEN A WHOLE HANDLE FULL OF BABY CARROTS IS STILL BETTER THEN WHAT I WAS CONSUMING ON A REGULAR DAY??? OR SHOULD I JUST GIVE UP ALL TOGETTER?

Fasts are great, especially for resting your digestive system, like the article says. One really really important thing people forget is to take a fat supplement like Udo's Perfect Blend or fish oil. This will protect your skin and hair, as well as help cleanse your digestive tract.

I have fasted many times before for cleansing (detox) lots of water, fruit juice in the morning because of sugar... vegies in the afternoon and night. Green tea. Acai suplement is high in antioxidant very good to help eliminate the impurities out of the body. Liquid fasting is great for the body, you not only give your body a break, it also cleanses all the organs and heals it. You will lose weight as well. If you are doing this to lose weight, you best start thinking of making changes in your eating habbits or you will gain back. Start thinking now if it's worthed to keep feeding your body all the crap you put in it just because it taste good. A healthy and balanced diet, will keep you happy, healthy, energized and younger. Finish your fasting and start everything new. You do not need processed food, fried food, pop, juices full of sugar you get from the store, donuts etc... It is all in your mind. You can program your mind to start liking other things. 20 years ago I used to drink coffee with lots of sugar and cream, today I drink with 1% milk and no sugar. I can't even stand the smell or tast of sugar and cream. You have to ask yourself this everytime you have cravings for something that its not good for your body. " Does my body needs this to function or does it want." If the answer is you want, then do not give it to your body. Be strong and control the wanting....Have a glass of water, some baby carrots, go for walk. Remember we eat to live, we don't live to eat. So, make changes for after the fasting. New healthy food, more exercising and all the things that makes you stressed out and sad, get rid of it.

      Good luck to all

so i was thinking about starting this fasting. i read about it in the book "skinny bitch" which i read about 4 months ago. after reading this book i actually became a vegan but lately i have been straying away and currently am just a vegetarian. the book talks about healthy lifestyles and how its important to eat organic foods. however i am a freshman in college so its been hard to eat the organic but i was wondering if anyone thought it was ok to drink juice that is in a obttle like odwalla smoothies and juices because since i am in college i have no access to a juicer.

I have been trying to fast umsucessfully for about three months. For some reason I start the fast but never continue. I would like some advice on what to do to get back on the band wagon and stay motivated. I weigh 196 pounds and i'm 5'8 I would like to get back to my college weight of 175 or my high school weight of 165. My plan is to do a 30day juice fast only consuming clear juice products. Apple juice, cranberry juice, white grape juice, lemon juice, lemonade and all other clear liquid products my goal is to do this for 30 straight days. I plan to lose 25 pounds. I will do light exercise to stay toned but nothing to strenuous. If you have any suggestions or comments on my plan please let me know. After this fast I plan to transition into a healthy eating plan and include regualr exercise in my diet. This 30day diet is to jump start me on my personal journey to health heaven.

      Thanks Good Lc

I've been on Optifast now for 14 days. Thats no food whatsoever. 5 meal replacement shakes and as much diet fluids as you like. I've cheated twice. Both times with a bowl of soup. I've lost 15 pounds and feel pretty good. This is a doctor supervised diet so you have to plan on spending a few bucks every week for the doctor and blood tests and the actual drinks. Figure about 50 bucks for the doctor and another 50 or so for the powder mixes. The blood is more but you dont have to take blood every week. I have a huge amount of weight to lose so naturally my initial weight loss would be significant if i keep to the outline of the fast. If you have minimal weight problems you can make this diet work really fast. If you're an active person this diet will take weight off extremely fast. 5 shakes a day will provide the body with all the vitamins and nutrients it needs. My doctor suggests at least 2 quarts of other liquids during the course of the day and more if possible. Like any other diet, if you go back to your poor eating habits when you're finished fasting the weight will come back. If you want to change your eating habits for life and take off excess weight its a great way to start. I'm at the beginning of my mission so i cant tell you about long term results but i can say what i've seen so far is good. It took about 9 days for my body to adjust to not eating all the crap i was putting in it. Everything seems to be better or properly now. I have a long way to go and i'll post from time to time to keep updated. Good luck to everyone that tries and be happy.

I am drinking water with lemon or lime, hot water with lemon or lime, hot water with parsely, sodium free chicken broth, low sodium V8, diet cranberry juice (contains 5 calories and no sugar), and up to two glasses of crystal light. I am doing the fast in conjunction with Hydroycut's seven day cleanse program. I will repost with my results. :O)

If you are really 5 ft7 and only 125 pounds, you do not need to loose weight. Youa re already at an almost unhealthy weight, to loose moore would only make you look skinny and unattractive. I am only 5 ft 4 and 130 lbs and I look great. Try excersising to tone instead of dieting.

I got a jack lalanne juicer, in the book that they wrote, they say to lose weight, juice fruits and veggies, and drink a glass before you eat, and then have a salad and some lean chicken, you should never just drink liquids all day long, you will become dizzy, as I have! your body will go into starvation mode, you can even drink as long as u have a peice of bread and a normal dinner, you should only juice 2-3 times a day and have a healthy meal with it,

      Healthy Girl 7 years ago

I did a 30-day fast when I was 16. Lost 35 lbs together with MY HEALTH: hypothyroidism, bone and teeth decalcification, I completely stopped growing, didn't get my period anymore... a complete disaster and a permanent damage!!! I wish I could go back and be wiser. Teenage girls that want to lose weight: with fasting you don't lose fat, you lose muscle and water, which you gain back right after you stop fasting. Less muscle mass means slower metabolism; more muscle means faster metabolism and more calories burnt. In order to lose fat (and weight) quickly, follow a high protein diet and keep your muscles active for constant fat burning. I am not talking about looking like the Incredible Hulk but more like a healthy Jennifer Aniston. Do not over do it: 30 mins of aerobics 3 days a week (something fun & stimulating, like spinning) plus and 20 mins of muscle building / weight lifting / pulling 3 days a week (e.g. pilates) is sufficient. But without muscles, you won't burn fat. And without proteins, your muscles will waste away! Only proteins can build muscle, so DO NOT stop eating low fat proteins (soya, peas, tuna, lean beef, chicken breast, low fat cheese). Follow a high protein diet, add loads of fibre/vegies, loads of water, and vitamin/mineral supplements. If you want to lose weight quickly: try a "CARBS FASTING" instead. Protein exerts the most potent action on saciety than any nutrient. Very simple principle: more muscle mass = faster metabolic rate = you'll lose weight faster. You'll feel leaner, happier and healthier. I recommend this book: "The Metabolism Miracle" by Diane Kress. Good luck, love yourself, stay active and healthy!

I am going in for surgery in 4 days. I have ovarian cysts and scar tissue from a previous surgery. I am in a lot of pain, especially when my bowels move. So I am beginning a liquid diet today (lemon water first thing, fruits with aloe vera and chlorophyll in the morning, veggies with kelp, nuts, and flax in the afternoon and evening. A little tomato soup, chicken broth, and miso. Hot green tea and 2 tablespoons of fish oil at bedtime. Hopefully, this will ease pain and put my body in a mode to heal aafter the surgery. I am 44 years old and worried about estrogen replacement after the surgery. Any suggestions as to liquids that can replace estrogen? I'll need to detox from all of the pain killers and nausea medicine afterwards as well. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Fasting to Cleanse 7 years ago

There are a lot of people posting on here that their intention for fasting is to lose considerable amounts of weight... from what I've learned since I started fasting, you probably won't have the success you're looking for. Liquid fasting is mainly to detox your body for better digestion and vitality. But it sounds like quite a few of the girls posting are young and wanting to lose lbs instead of toxins. I've also read a couple of posts saying they're incorporating coffee into their fast, and that sounds like a bad idea to me. Give your body NUTRIENTS, not caffeine! One last thing, studies show that the majority of women see themselves as 30% larger than they actually are.

      Be safe and smart, guys!

britney : you are a healthy weight.

For most of you : if you are trying to loose weight this really isn't a great way to start. It's much easier to stop eating junk food and then move on to more and more restrictions as time progresses. If you aren't active you are probably wasting your time with a restrictive diet alone. I'm doing a 3 day liquid fast to help my digestive system get back to normal after eating a ton of sushi last week, but for the most part I use CRON for weight maintenance and general health benefits. CRON = calorie restriction optimal nutrition. The whole idea is eating only foods that actually have a nutritional benefit. So if your are on a liquid fast and drinking apple juice you may be down the wrong track. Not only is there a lot of sugar in apple and cranberry juice, there really isn't a lot of nutrients. It's better to either do your own juicing at home using a broad blend of vegetable and fruit juices or buying more nutrient rich juices from the health food section of the grocery store. Drinking all that sugar will make your body burn off carbs instead of fat. And will give you some of the worst gas of your life.

If you aren't doing strength training you are probably burning off a lot of muscle instead of fat. Make sure to make at least 1/2 of your exercise routine strength training like lifting weights or pilates.

If your goal is to be thinner as opposed to being healthy you may need to examine your life choices, and consider good cognitive behavioral therapy while moving forward with your health plan.

Good health to you all and good luck!

      Juice Feaster 6 years ago

      Greetings All!

Juicing for weight loss is possible, but You Must Know What You Are Doing! Also, it is up to the individual to know their body and do the research to find out if this will be the best program for you! If you are not sure if you are a healthy weight for your age and hieght google a BMI calculator on line and check. Also consulting your physician- especially if you are a teenager- is probably best before starting a program like this.

Personally I have lost 15 lbs from juice FEASTING for 21 days. It is important to do the additional work to keep off the wieght. If you are planning to stay on a long term feast... (beyond 21 days), you should have an exercise regimine in place along with your feasting plan so that you don't lose muscle mass or bone mass.

      WHAT TO DRINK:

Drinking juiced fruits and veggies is the way to go; with occasional tea if you like. Drink at least 4-5 quarts of Juice per day.

(In response to someone's comment)You can drink Apples! Make sure the apples are organic so that you can juice the skin- which is very high in nutrients.

You should also be drinking plenty of water!!! At least a gallon per day.

Take multi-vitamin to ensure you are getting your nutrients.

Excerise at least 30 minutes a day and increase this time if you plan to do long term juice feasting... with a weight training regimin only after 60 days.

      For More Info:

Check online for juice feasting approaches to help you understand what you should be doing, stay motivated, and create a healthy plan for yourself.

      Thanks for everyone's input!

One thing I would really like to reply to is that weightloss system fast may be accomplished by the correct diet and exercise. A person's size not just affects the look, but also the general quality of life. Self-esteem, melancholy, health risks, plus physical capabilities are damaged in fat gain. It is possible to do everything right and at the same time having a gain. If this happens, a medical problem may be the root cause. While too much food and not enough work out are usually responsible, common medical conditions and traditionally used prescriptions can easily greatly add to size. Kudos for your post in this article.

Water, water, water, water! Carry a bottle of water with you EVERYWHERE. And don't let anyone catch you not eating. My fiance caught me last night and forced me to eat a salad with Caesar dressing. So now I'm back to day one, thanks to him.

i currently weight 199 pounds. i have been doing a lot of research on the water feast/liquid feast. most of the people have saw great results so i decide to try it. i carry water with me at all times becuase if i feel hungry i just drink my water. i have also been drink protein shakes once or twice a day which helps with the hunger issue. i also walk 2 miles a day so it will be toning muscle and help more with burning fat while on the feast. once the feast is over i am going to eat healthy. about how much weight should i expect to lose in the next 30 days?? and should i go the dr about half way through to make sure everything is still okay?

My chiropractor recommended that I try a 40 day fast of Kangen water (2 gallons per day) and Living Fuel Greens (1-3 per day). I want to cleanse and heal my body of 3 auto immune diseases (Crohn's, lupus, Hashimoto's thyroiditis) and probably candida too. Is his recommended fast the healthiest/safest way to do this. I have completed a liver/gall bladder cleanse just recently and I do eat very healthy. also, what is the best way for vegans to make sure to get enough b12 - anyone know?

3 years of comments and there have been very few replies or answers. Unbelievable. OK, here are some facts about fasting:

Fasting is a liquid-based diet. No actual chewed food is consumed whatsoever. This, therefore, cancels out the smoothie or shake approach. Smoothies are wonderful but they're not helpful for those who wish to change their lives by fasting as they contain fiber or pulp which is drawn through the digestive organs for elimination. Fasting gives those organs a break. Our bodies were made to handle occasional fasting. A simple fast - juice or water - of 2-40 days can greatly improve one's quality of life...as long as it's done correctly and regularly. By "regularly", I mean a few times per year.

How to fast. If you're able to handle pure or distilled water only, that's great. Water fast. A few days to a week won't kill anyone. Our bodies can actually function without food for a long time, so this is just a cleanse. If you can not handle water only (and I admit I am among that group), juice. This does not include store-bought smoothies, crystalite, diet pop or any other canned, bottled or powdered "mix". Those are not natural, regardless of what the package claims, and likely contain aspartame or other chemical poisons. These do not help you lose weight. They're addictive, habit-forming, killers. You will crave more crap which will make you sicker.

If you chose juice fasting, buy a juicer and fresh produce. Stand at a counter and do the work. Fresh juice molds quickly so don't make days worth at a time, thinking you'll just grab and go without extra prep...you'll just waste your money. It takes time, effort, planning and commitment to juice fast.

You can take some super foods (like specific algaes - research!) and possibly omegas while fasting but it is best to stay away from other pre-packaged supplements. Today's vitamins are chemically enhanced shadows of what our bodies actually need. If you're fasting, you're giving your body the opportunity to heal itself and clean out accumulated junk. That junk includes store-bought vitamins. Go back on after your fast if necessary but abstain during if at all possible.

If you juice fast, you will need a gentle herbal addition to help you eliminate toxins...in other words, go out to your local health store and buy an herbal laxative. Do NOT buy over the counter chemicals at the grocery store or discount store. Those are harsh and do more harm than good. If you do not eliminate on a fast, toxins will build up in your blood, eventually affecting your organs. The point of doing a fast is to feel better. So take this step.

You must exercise to lose weight but on a fast it can be a lighter form. Yoga and pilates, spinning, light cardio...all great choices. Walk or jog lightly if you have the option. Use a treadmill. Swim. you don't have to go to the gym, hire an expensive personal trainer, or become a weight lifting guru to lose weight or improve your health while fasting. Drink lots of water before and after working out and throughout the day. You can have herbal teas on any fast. Some clear broth is OK, but most pre-made soups contain a lot of salt which is detrimental in a fast.

Fasting - water and juice - has been known to rid the body of disease...even hiv, diabetes and cancer. It's not a miracle pill or cure-all. It takes TIME and COMMITMENT. If you struggle with those diseases, do not expect your body to be clean overnight or even in a month or two. Intermittent fasting may be required in those cases with CLOSE medical supervision.

TEENAGERS! LOOK HERE! YOU ARE NOT FAT! YOU ARE NOT STUPID! SO DO NOT DO SOMETHING STUPID TO YOUR BODY THAT YOU WILL REGRET FOR MANY YEARS TO COME! Yes, occasional fasting is even OK for you...OCCASIONAL...like for 2-5 days. But instead of fasting, a simpler and more effective option would be adopting a raw food eating plan. Research it and implement it. You will not lose muscle mass that way, become dizzy, do something insane like attempt to purge after binging, or any of the other silly, misguided things teens do to try to fit into society's magazine-perfect image. Focus on long term changes...fresh fruit instead of candy bars. V8 instead of pop. Carrot sticks instead of cheetos. And toss the cigarettes and beer in the trash. They're poison.

Nothing, and I do mean N-O-T-H-I-N-G, will change until YOU'RE ready to make the change. So when you are REALLY ready, do it...not for your friends, prom date, spouse, or kids...but for yourself. When you can look in a mirror every morning and say "I'm doing this for ME", THAT'S when you'll succeed.

Im on a liquid fast right now but not to lose weight. Im a christian and I want enlightenment from the Lord so i decided to fast for a week, or whenever I feel Im in the place where I want to be. The hunger pains bothered me when I did it for the wrong reasons but Since the Spirit has touched my heart, hunger dosen't bother me. When I start thinking about food, I just pray. Preachers say that The Word(bible) is spiritual food. Good luck to everyone on their diets, but Im on mine for enlightenment...:-)
