Make Your Own Green Juice

Why I Drink Green Juice

The best thing by far that I have in my kitchen is my green juice maker, because I am a DIY green juice fanatic!

I make fresh green juice everyday because I know that when it comes to eating fresh vegetables, quantity is paramount. But who can really eat 9 portions per day? Surely it’s just too much food to consume, and who has the time to prepare all that food for a family every single day? Yet if we don’t consume that amount we run the risk of becoming unhealthy. That’s what the experts are saying and I have no choice but to believe them.

I started juicing about 5 years ago and we drink green juice every day we can. When we are away on holidays we miss our juice more than any other home comfort! That's because it has become part of our normality.

After 5 years I can honestly say that I feel better when I drink juice. It makes me feel stronger with more vitality. My husband says the same, he says he feels much fitter and his mind feels less foggy.

My son hates it! But he drinks it too - every day! He certainly feels the benefits because otherwise he would really flatly refuse to drink it.

I am not a doctor so I can't give you any medical advice, but I have read a great deal about the benefits of drinking green juice and I am absolutely convinced that it is beneficial to my family's health.

Why I Love This Juicer

So, my green juice maker is my health kick. After a great deal of research I decided on this model ( Samson 6 in 1 Electric Juicer) because it is not a centrifugal machine it but works by slowly masticating the vegetables and squeezing the juice out of them, which keeps the juice fresh with no heat damage.

This machine also offered very good value.

The machine will work well with any vegetable and is very good with soft leaves, and wheatgrass as it doesn’t become clogged up. It separates the pulp of the vegetables and fruit from the juice. I like eating a little of the pulp too, and I sometimes make roasted vegetable crisps with it. But mainly that’s for the compost bin.

It's So Easy To Prepare The Vegetables

To prepare the vegetables all you have to do is wash it carefully, soak it in a little vinegar to disinfect it, cut it into the right size and press the button.

As for the juice itself, it tastes much better than any green juice I’ve ever bought because it’s freshly made. And there are so many different recipes to invent – it just depends what’s on special offer in the supermarkets! I use organic fruit and vegetables. I think that's important because I don't peel any of the veg or fruit - everything goes into the juicer and I don't fully believe that washing, even with vinegar, takes away chemical residue.

It's very important to remember that your juice should be consumed soon after it is made because it is not cooked and has no preservatives and therefore bacteria soon starts to form.

If you store it in the fridge use a sealed container and only store for max of 30 minutes.

In order to digest it properly try not to gulp it down in one go - sip it slowly and drink it through a straw if you have used a high proportion of citrus. That will save your teeth!

It Looks Cool

This may sound a bit daft, but I love my juicer because it looks beautiful! It has an old fashioned style and it feels like quality. It doesn’t make a terrible loud noise when you turn it on. It stays put, unlike my other juicer that screeched and jumped around like a crazy thing!

It’s also very easy to clean. All the bits fit together like a glove, there’s no need to use force to pull it apart – it’s just a perfect design. This matters because otherwise I know I would never to use it.

It sits on my kitchen unit looking very lovely.

Highly Recommended

The only down side I can tell you about is that the vegetables tend to stain the plastic parts of the machine, especially the green leaves and the beetroot, but that comes off in the dishwasher and a little scrub. The removable parts are top shelf machine washable.

So I definitely give my green juice maker the thumbs up - highly recommended.

I have written a more detailed lens about the health benefits of drinking green juice, which has some very easy recipes.

Do you drink green juice or are you thinking of starting? I'd love to hear from you. Please leave a comment. Thanks very much indeed for your visit.

That's true. thanks for the tips about parsley - I've never juiced it and now I don't think I ever will! Juice is powerful stuff! The juice you buy has to be full preservatives because fresh green juice only has a shelf life of about 10 minutes!! It's best to make your own for many reasons. Thanks very much indeed for your visit.

Good stuff! Your Green Juice #4 is pretty close to what I make for breakfast. Once I used parsley and got the worst stomach ache ever. I don't recommend it. So much less expensive that buying it.

Actually, I purchased some kale this afternoon before reading your reply. Thanks for you interest, but you really don't need to be concerned about me in that way. I am very fine, thank you.

My weight is pretty steady. Mostly I've been make smoothies and adding ground flax seed to them. I've only been doing the juicing once in a while.

You need to grasp this whole concept. Juicing fruit can result in weight gain because of excessive amounts of sugar. Juicing greens and adding an apple for example is Super Food!! Let me know how you get on. Thanks for your visit.

I've got a masticating juicer too and have made some juices with it, mostly fruity ones. I'd like to see one of your green juice recipes.

I love combining apples and celery. I also juice up the greens but I don't do it as often as I should. I use one of those Breville juicers.

You're very welcome. I highly recommend this and walking at a good pace for about 20 minutes as many times a week as you can. lol! That's about all I have time for - but I do feel a lot healthier than I did a couple of years ago! Thanks very much indeed for your visit.
