Mission: Get in Shape - Week 8

Updated on July 18, 2012

Reunion, Amusement Park, Dinner, Oh My!

Well, to say I cheated a bit this week would be a huge understatement. There were many activities that took place that provided enough temptation to completely throw my eating schedule out of whack. Coupled with a bit of slacking in the exercise department and this week wasn't as great as I was hoping for.

Reunion:

Friday night was my 10 year high school reunion which took place in a local bar. I had a really great time and I have learned that shamelesly flirting with the bartender goes a loong way to getting free drinks! I started the night off being good. I ordered a glass of white wine and sipped it for the first hour. Then people really started showing up and rounds of shots were being passed around. By the end of the night I had quite a few drinks and coming in at least 100 calories a piece I was over my coloric projection for the day. Still, I had an absolute blast and wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

Amusement Park:

Every year my aunts company has their summer picknic at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania and she always invites me to go. There's rides, games and the most fun of all... Chocolate World!!! There is an entire store devoted to wonders of Hershey chocolate. Also included in the package is a voucher for free food in a specific location from 12 - 4 in the afternoon. Needless to say I fully embraced the saying "If it's free, it's for me". I only feel slightly less guilty about this day because we walked a little over 6 miles while we were there and I only had a ity bity bit of chocolate... Well, relative to how much a could have had.

Dinner:

I ended up not being able to fit in the dress after all. It zipped, which at least is progress but if I breathed too deeply it was going to pop at the seems.

There was a birthday recently in the family and we all went out to a nice restaurant (I horrible review of which is pending). The food was fantastic, the service was not. But like I said, that is for another hub. I had a glass of red wine, filet mignon and for dessert sorbet with whipped cream over mixed berries. It wasn't completely terrible for having eaten out, but then when we got back to the house there was even more dessert. One of these days my family is going to have to learn that the world doesn't revolve around dessert...

Analyzing The Data

I have been completely fascinated by the ups and downs my body is going through during this process. I have a theory that maybe the differences is more in the placement of the measuring tape than actual gains or losses. It was also interesting that the morning of the weigh in (I know I said I wasn't going to do that anymore but my curiousity got the better of me) I was 179.2 and at the end of the day I was 176. I managed to lose 3 lbs of colon weight in about 8 hours.

Plans For This Week

Despite having cheated and slacked quite a bit last week I still feel stronger and it really showed while hiking yesterday. I am able to go farther faster and I no longer feel winded going up flights of stairs or carrying groceries to the house.

I plan to step up my workouts a bit and really make sure I stick to the schedule. My boss just reduced my hours so I have plenty of time in the morning now to get a good workout in without having to wake up at the crack of dawn.

Thankfully there is a little more than a month before the next family holiday or activity so I wont be tempted to cheat for at least 6 weeks. I am going to learn from all my experiences thus far, not get discouraged and keep pushing forward.
