Apricot kernels

Natural cures for cancer : Introduction

If a cancer patient is well informed and knowledgeable, he or she will definitely choose the natural cures for cancer, instead of the mainstream cancer treatment. Natural cures for cancer take the form of holistic nutritional approach. There are many natural treatments and therapies available, although none of them is approved by the mainstream medical Big Brothers for reasons better known to themselves. But that doesn’t mean that these natural cures for cancer don’t work. The most important message to all cancer patients is that they have a choice in cancer treatments, and not to succumb to the false belief that only radiation, chemotherapy and surgery may work. Everyone knows the painful and debilitating side effects of these “burn, poison, and cut” treatments.

Natural cures for cancer are usually taken in combination of the methods available. It is not advisable to just stick to only one form of natural treatment. Different patients and different types of cancer may respond to different types of natural treatments. Patients can seek out reliable experts in these alternative natural treatments and go from there to gain more confidence in these treatments.

For this article I like to share with you three types of natural cures for cancer. They are:

  • Apricot seed kernels
  • Papaya leaves and stalks
  • Lemon grass

Natural cures for cancer : Apricot seed kernels

Apricot seed kernels are nature’s “chemotherapy”. But unlike chemotherapy, apricot seed kernels only kill the cancer cells. Apricot seed kernel is the inside substance of the apricot pit. The kernel is extracted by crushing the hard pit of the apricot. The apricot seed kernel contains a compound called amagdylin. The other names for this compound are laetrile, nitriloside, or B17.

Amagdylin is a powerful cancer fighter when used in conjunction with other appropriate natural treatments. Amagdylin contains four substances. Two are glucose; one is benzaldyhide, and one is cyanide. The trace of organic cyanide can effectively destroy cancer cells in earlier stages of the disease.

The recommended dosage per day is one pit for each 10 pounds of body weight.

This is from a first-hand information from a cancer survivor about the limitation of apricot kernel. This I quote from his blog comment:

"In today's post about apricot seeds did not work for me, I think I left out an important detail. As I said, the B17 found in the apricot seed is not effective against kidney cancer. However, apricot seeds also contains high oil and protein content which feeds the cancer. This is the damaging part. That's why taking the B17 (Laterile/Amygdalin) extract is preferred."

Papaya tree and leaf

Natural cures for cancer : Papaya leaves and stalks

Research done at Purdue University headed by Dr. Mclaughlin has found that papaya contains 50 biological active ingredients which can fight against bacteria, parasites, fungi and certain varieties of cancer cells. The vital vitamin B17 is also present in abundance in papaya. Another potent compound is acetogenin, generally found in papaya twigs. Acetogenins have been shown to have dramatic biological activity, being active against worms, viruses, fungi, and many cancer cell lines.

Dr. McLaughlin also found that papaya can fight against tumors and any type of abnormalities which involve faster than normal cell growth. Tests have also shown that papayas reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Probably, the most quoted authority on the papaya is Harold W. Tietze who wrote the book “Papaya The Medicine Tree”. In his book, Tietze wrote about the stories of many cancer survivors who successfully used the juice of the papaya leaf to cure themselves of cancer.

By the way, cancer patients who take laetrile or apricot kernel, are advised to take papaya and pineapple everyday, as their enzymes will strip away the coating on the cancer cells to enable the B17 in the kernel to attack the cancer cells.

The recipe is as follows:

  • Wash and partly dry several medium-size papaya leaves.
  • Cut into small pieces like cutting cabbage.
  • Put them in a pot filled with 2 quarts / litres of water.
  • Heat water until boil and then simmer without a lid until the water is reduced by half.
  • Strain the liquid and bottle in glass containers.
  • Put the liquid in the refrigerator.

(Good for three to four days; if it becomes cloudy, it should be discarded.)

The recommended dosage in the original recipe is 3 tablespoons/ 50ml three times a day.

Lemongrass stalks

Natural cures for cancer : Lemongrass

This information is most probably based on the well-circulated research study done in 2005 at the Ben Gurion University in Israel.

The study found that in a test tube environment, one gram of lemongrass could cause cancer cells to self-destruct, a process called “apoptosis”, while the normal cells were left unharmed. The substance responsible for this apoptosis is citral. Citral in lemongrass gives it the lemon aroma.

Recipe for lemongrass tea:

  • 8 lemongrass stalks, cut off the knob at the bottom of the stalk
  • Wash clean, and crush the stalks with a pestle or something heavy
  • Put the stalks in a pot with 1 liter of water, and bring to boil
  • Turn the flame down and simmer for 20 minutes
  • Let cool and add 3 tablespoons of pure honey and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

(Drink it warm or chilled)

There are many recipes for lemongrass tea. You can follow another lemongrass tea recipe in my other article "How to make lemongrass tea".

JKMartin is correct. I have followed Dr. Jerry McLaughlin's research for many, many years. Your comments regarding paw paw are complete nonsense. Jerry's work was on the Asimina triloba, and you are attributing the benefits of it to papaya, which is not even related. Furthermore, you ascribe benefits to paw paw or acetogenins that were not claimed by him (kills fungi...really???). Jerry's work was meticulous and scientific. Your article (at least as relates to papaya) is nonsense.

I would like to confirm that you actually intended to refer exclusively to the papaya plant (scientific name: carica papaya) rather than the American pawpaw (asimina triloba). The papaya is commonly called "pawpaw" is some areas, as our several other fruits, but the two are distinctly different plants. I have studied the asimina triloba (pawpaw) fairly extensively, and the carica papaya to a lesser extent. In particular the research done by Dr. Jerry Mclauglin, which you connect with carica papaya, should be connected to asimina triloba. One can find the information available at

My husband is currently taking both paw paw and papaya extracts. The pawpaw is for actively fighting the cancer, while the papaya is to build blood platelets so that he can continue chemo treatments. If the two supplements are essentially interchangeable, I will look hard at discontinuing one of them. It would be a great service to me if you could double-check your sources of information and confirm that you indeed intend to refer only to papaya (carica papaya) and not American pawpaw (asimina triloba). Thank you for considering my request, and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

In order for apricot kernels to be effective in the treatment of cancer, they must be used in adequate doses. What complicates this dosage is that we each have different capacities to process amygdalin (B17) safely. The body actually expects small quantities of dietary cyanide. Sickle cell anemia is a cyanide deficiency disease. Technically, it's a thiocyanate deficiency disease, but the body requires cyanide to produce thiocyanate. A further complication is that, there are dozens of different cultivars of apricot kernels available for purchase, all of which have drastically different concentrations of amygdalin. A comfortable dosage with one apricot kernel isn't necessarily a safe dosage with another.

Bitterness is the indicator for amygdalin content and we want the most bitter apricot kernel available. It is this kernel we want to be basing our dosages on. Apricot kernels range in amygdalin content from little more than sweet almonds all the way up to that of bitter almonds. This entire range is being marketed as "bitter apricot kernels". One end of the scale has the potential to be very effective - the other end has the potential to be detrimental. Apricot kernels are very high in fat, and if a person were using a mildly bitter kernel in massive quantities, they'd be suffering from the impact of high fat.

Finding the kernel with the highest concentration of amygdalin available to us should be the goal. Trial and error is the means.

I talk about this more on my own blog at

It is dangerous to broadcast to the public that these are cures for cancer. I agree with Akanga. I am all about holistic strageties to HELP PREVENT cancer, but in all actuality there are no simple cures to cancer. My mother fell for and tried every single holistic method because she absolutely hated modern medicine, but guess what, not one of them worked and she spent years trying every single "NATURAL CURE" for cancer these liars came up with. PEOPLE! This is DANGEROUS. DO NOT BELIEVE these "cure-all" lies. If you must, use the holistic means as a supplement to traditional means.

I am also curious what evidence motivates people to post this stuff. It infuriantes me.

      Good luck.

Bruised ego eh? That doesn't bother me really. What I'm concerned about is the fact that somebody might take you on your word, waste valuable time and resources in pursuit of these 'cures' . You may gain a few adsense cents but somebody might lose their life. If you can't defend something, don't say it. It is called having a conscience.

I will declare interest up-front. I practise conventional medicine. The claims you make here are very serious. In a literal sense, they could mean the difference between life and death. Now, could you please show CREDIBLE evidence of the efficacy of your recipes/formulations?

Very informative and useful information......indeed nature has lot to offer in terms of treatments and remedies for all diseases it's the matter of discovering them addition to what you have mentioned I have also read that tomatoes, besides loads of vitamin C,are one of the richest sources of the flavenoid lycopene - which gives them their red colour - which has shown to defend, in study after study, against cancers of the lungs, cervix, prostate and mouth. Tomatoes are also one of the chief ingredients of "the Mediterranean diet", now well known for the many important health benefits it conveys.

      Hi aunty oriole,

Thanks for visiting. Remember not to give the papaya plant too much water. The root will rot easily. This happened to my papaya plant.

Great piece of information about papaya leaves and lemon grass. Both can be easily grown in the tropical climate. Coincidently, I have planted lemon grass and papaya trees in my garden.
