Why Death Is Inescapable and How Can We Cope With It?

I would love to share what I discovered about death in the Bible.

Death is our enemy. Every human that comes into this world has to die. We all have lost loved ones and it's not easy to cope with, we think about them from time to time. We are all prisoners of death and there is no way we can escape from it. But should we be scared of death and worry about something which is unknown. What we can do is understand why does it happen and what's in store for us in the future?

What is God's view on death?

God considers death as his enemy and he hates death. God is our creator, he is a loving father and a good father will never ever think of death for his children even in his dreams. From the verses below we can understand that God really hates death and want to destroy it forever.

"He will destroy death forever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from every face and remove his people’s disgrace from the whole earth, for the Lord has spoken." (Isaiah25:8)

From the above verse, we understand God's point of view on death. Why would he destroy death if he liked it?

Gods original purpose for humans on earth.

God created the magnificient earth. He created Adam and Eve and he wanted them to have children, and live forever on the earth. God will not create anything without a purpose, he created the earth with perfection and wanted humans to spread throughout the earth and enjoy life forever.

"God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.” (Genesis1:28). We can see in this verse the original purpose of our creator.

Has the purpose changed for us humans? No, According to Psalm 37:29 "The righteous will inherit the earth and dwell in it forever."

Why do we die?

We die because Adam and Eve sinned and the punishment of such a grave sin is death. Adam and Eve are our ancestors and they sinned, automatically we are also sinners and we also face the same punishment as death. For example, think of a plain white paper and then you put a black dot on the white paper with a marker. The black dot cannot be erased and if you make copies of that paper, it will still have the dot. Here if you pay attention, Adam and Eve's life was like this white paper, perfect. But they sinned, It's like the black dot with the marker and it cannot be removed and the copies we made, it's the children of Adam and Eve who are born with the same black dot that is the sin. The only way to wipe this paper clean is by exercising faith that Jesus died for our sins and living a life how Gods expects us to so that we will be resurrected.

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned." (Romans5:12)

What is the state of a person when he/she is dead?

We know that death is opposite of life and when a person dies everything ceases to exist for that person. Dead know nothing at all. When a person dies his thoughts also perish. When a good friend of Jesus died, he said to his disciples that "Lazarus our friend has fallen asleep". What Jesus meant was that he is in deep sleep, He didn't say that he is suffering or he will be reincarnated as an animal.

"For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; there is no longer any reward for them, because all memory of them is lost." (Ecclesiastes9:5)

"When they breathe their last, they return to dust; on that very day all their plans are gone." (Psalm 146:4)

How to cope when a loved one dies?

It's very difficult to cope when we lose a loved one. I can say this because I myself have lost few loved ones. I have lost my cousin to cancer, he was just 14. I asked myself what had he done that he died in such a terrible way? But if you know why this happens, It's better to deal with such a loss. The first thing you should do is to pray and ask God for the strength to help you to go on with your life. Once someone you love dies, you cannot stop living your life, you still have to do the daily chores like you always did. Another way to cope is to talk to a loved one who is around or a good friend, sharing your grief with someone will make you feel better. We should also understand that time is a good healer and with time we will deal with the grief better. We can think of resurrection of our loved one and the hope of seeing them in future, we can dream of this day because it will surely happen.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” (Revelations21:4)

Gods promise: Resurrection

God has said in the Bible that all those in the memorial tombs will come back to life. God will resurrect righteous ones who will have the opportunity to live forever. How can we be sure that humans will be resurrected?

1) God does not lie. If we read Bible we will know God always fulfills his promises.

2)God created us so he has the power to resurrect people.

3)God resurrected Jesus. It proves he can resurrect us too.

4) With the power of God, Jesus resurrected Lazarus. Jesus witnessed to other people the power of his Father.

Hope to see the dead in future

It brings great joy for me to know that our family and friends who died will be resurrected and we will see them again. And we all will live forever and death will be no more. So let's be hopeful and let us all look forward to such a great joyous day in our lives when we will have the opportunity to meet the loved ones whom we have lost.
