Easy Ways To Relieve Stress

Updated on May 3, 2017

What Causes Stress ?

By Sharon Stajda,

Studies indicate there is good evidence that people that have pets, live longer ...

With today's hectic and fast paced lifestyles, it is easy to overtax the body which can result in feelings of fatigue and perhaps depression. We run here, we run there, and most of us never stopping to realize what our daily routines are doing to our bodies. Naturally we don’t invite stress into our lives, but it has a way of just showing up.

Granted most people would like to slow down, and enjoy life a little more. But circumstances beyond are control prevents us from achieving a much desired peaceful existence. Work, jobs you name it all add up to stress.

Here are some simple suggestions that one can make to alleviate not only fatigue, but help chase away the blues.

Lavender Is Known For Its Wonderful Relaxing Benefits

Many people appreciate lavender for its aromatic fragrance, used in soaps, shampoos, and sachets for scenting clothes. The name lavender comes from the Latin root lavare, which means to wash. History dictates that lavender was frequently used in baths to help purify the body and spirit. However, this herb is also considered a natural remedy for a wide range of ailments. From insomnia, anxiety, depression, and other mood disturbances. Research has confirmed that lavender can have a calming soothing effect, and help relieve anxiety.

Chinese Food So Taste And So Relaxing

Who Would Have Thought An Ice Cream Sundae Could Aid In Relaxation

Want To Feel Joyful? Pick Up Some Chinese Food

Want to chasing away those blues, enjoy some Chinese food. Research has shown that Chinese food such as sweet and sour chicken or orange beef can improve one's mood. Any Chinese food that has a wonderful tangy flavor is said to simulate the brain center that is responsible for joy. So, if you are having a really bad day, perhaps you should pick up some Chinese food for lunch or dinner.

Have A Hot Fudge Sundae - Oh Yes, I said hot fudge sundae !

How about treating yourself to a hot fudge sundae. The ice cream itself has loads of calcium plus folic acid, both which have been proven to be mood elevators. The combination of ice cream and hot fudge also boosts the production of serotonin, which is can work to keep one happy for a longer period. Dark chocolate not only tastes great it's one of the top cancer fighting food.

Sage is good for more than bread stuffing.

Orange And Lemon Peel

The essence of orange and lemon peel have a substance called limonoids. Limonoids has been proven to aid in fighting cancer. Plus the peels of these citrus fruits are high in Vitamin C, which is known to aid in rejuvenating the body's immune system. So don't discard the peel, add it into your foods, grate the peel and use as a topper to a salad, or sprinkle that peel into tea or a soft drink.

SAGE Can Curb That Stress, Naturally

Sage Is a wonderful herb that studies have shown to improve one's mood.

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a perennial flower with lavender flowers, and leathery green leaves. It's been used for centuries in cooking, and for medicinal use.

An English herbalist "Gerard" stated, "Sage is good for the head and brain, it quickeneth the senses as well as improves memory." Gerard said this In 1597. So you can see sage was being used as far back as the 1500s for its good health properties.

What Is known about sage today? Through lab studies sage has been proven to slow the release of enzymes that are proven to break down acetylcholine. Acetylcholines are essential neurotransmitter. By inhibiting these enzymes it improve mood by maintaining optimal levels of acetylcholine .

Blind research studies were done by a British researchers with 30 healthy young volunteers. Some volunteers being given Sage leaf extract, some being given sugar pills. After 4 hours the volunteers that had ingested the sage, were calmer and more alert than the volunteers that received the placebo.

Tip - Sage Leaf Capsules can be found in health food stores. Dose recommendation is 600mg. per day. Recommended to be taken before a stressful event or if experiencing stress. You may also try sage tea, To make add 1 cup boiling water, with 1 teaspoon dried sage leaves, steep, and enjoy. (Caution do not take if pregnant)

A Of Chamomile Can Really Be Relaxing

At the end of the day, don't add to your fatigue with a jog. Invigorate your body with a stroll ...

Pass On That Coffee - Have A Cup of Tea, Chamomile Tea That Is ...

Chamomile is one of the oldest garden herbs. It has a good reputation as a medicinal plant. It is a remedy that was used by the ancient Egyptians to aid in relaxation, and promote sound sleep. Chamomile continues to be used today to battle several ills, it is known to calm indigestion, and promote calmness. It can aid in relieving anxiety, and calm you down at bedtime. In the form of tea, or capsules, it is naturally caffeine-free. The finest varieties of Chamomile, still comes from Egypt. Next time you find yourself having a stressful day or problems winding down at the end of the day - have a nice cup of tea - Chamomile tea that is.

Slow It Down - Walk Don't Run

Walks don't run. According to the research done at the Greece Aristotle University, walking is more likely to invigorate the body. Research shows that the high intensity of a run leaves one more likely to rest more after the run. Not actually fighting fatigue but adding to the level of fatigue. It is proven that a moderate walk as a rule invigorates, and adds to ones energy level, and lifts the spirits.

Give your body a chance to slow down, and feel truly relaxed.

A massage can bring you to a wonderful relaxed state

Make Time In Your Day To Relax

Take time out to just sit and meditate. It is a very well know fact, even a short meditation can be very rejuvenating to the body and soul. Sit down and reminisce, by looking at family photos. You can't help but have wonderful feelings viewing past good times that have been capture in photos.

A wonderful way to relax at bedtime, a relaxing bath, topped off by baby powder. Yes baby powder. Not only is the powder soothing. The scent is known to be very relaxing. And in some trigger wonderful childhood memories.

Massage Can Provide With You Total Relaxation

If you want to feel peppy, get a massage. I am not talking about a costly Spa massage. This massage can be done just about anywhere. Ear massage; massage your entire ear with two fingers using just a light pressure. Yes it works; you will feel a good gust of pep.

Listen to some soothing music before bed, it will relax you to sleep before you know it.

Listen To Your Favorite Music

On the way home from work crank up your favorite music. Come through your door at night with a bit of pep, and a better attitude. You might find you have the energy for an evening stroll.

My last suggestion, take time to listen to your favorite music. When you are on that tedious drive home after work, get the crank out by cranking up the radio. Make sure it's at a volume you can feel. Don't be afraid to turn up the volume. Music has a way of banishes the blues, and chasing away fatigue. Studies have shown, enjoying music increasing the amount of oxygen to the brain, hence more energy, and a better mood.

Laugh Yourself Happy

Laugh Yoga Clubs Are Popping Up Everywhere.

Laughing Yoga, is a form of yoga that combines breathing exercises with laughter. A physician by the name of Madan Kataria developed the technique simply known as "laughter yoga in the mid-1990s." And recently this unusual form of yoga has become very popular. With Laughter Clubs popping up all over the place! There are over 5000 Laughter Clubs in 40 countries. With multitudes of members that are reaping the benefit of laughter combined with simple yoga breathing exercise.

Are you a good candidate for a Laugh Club?

Have A Good Hearty Laugh !

Endorphins are our body's own feel-good, pain-reducing chemicals. We not only produce endorphins with what we eat, but when we smile. Studies have shown that the curvature of the mouth in an upward position, triggers the brain to produce endorphins. Yes, just a smile can get your endorphin racing. So smile frequently, and see if your mood does not improve.

If you have a good sense of humor, and can sustain a hardy laughter for 15 to 20 minutes without depending upon humorous stimuli, you may be a good candidate for a Laugh Club?

Fight or Flight

Do you handle stress or add to it?

Stress is registered by the brain, which in turn triggers a 'fight or flight' response. The adrenal glands(two small glands located at the top of the kidneys) will then secrete a hormone by the name of adrenaline. This hormone triggers your heart to race, and blood pressure to rise, along with other various metabolic changes. It also triggers another hormone to be secreted, this hormone is called cortisol. Cortisol depresses immune function.

The fight or flight response can be triggered by a variety of situations, that come up in our daily lives. It might be as simple as a long line in the grocery store, or your boss passing you over for a promotion. Some stressors can't be avoided. However, an increase in the level of stress can be avoided. How, by some simple dietary changes, while you are experiencing a stressful situation

Some foods, and smoking will enhance the fight or flight reaction. Making it much worse than it has to be on the body. Caffeine, sugar, and nicotine are all adrenal stimulants. These stimulants when taken on their own in increased amounts can trigger a stress response in the body, yes, even when there is no external stress present.

So imagine what happens to your body if you are under stress, and add the stimulant caffeine, and sugar. Your stress level rises, most likely you will experience some physical symptoms, due to the fight or flight syndrome. Racing heart, sweaty, pounding head.

Now, I am not saying you have to give up coffee, and sugar, and heaven forbid smoking. I will suggest that common sense be considered? If stressed out, don't aggravate the problem by taking in well know stimulants.

The stress will be alleviated much safer and quicker if you take a bit of time to perhaps take a walk, take in some nice deep breaths, have a glass of milk.
