Fear of Phobias and Other Funny Phobias
I love phobias. There's just so many of them! It seems that no matter what you're scared of, there's an official name for it!
I've gathered up all my favorite phobias here. The funny phobias, the weird phobias, the most common phobias, the phobias you don't have and the phobias I do have. Heck, I even made up a few phobias just for fun!
Most Common Phobia
The fear of spiders
Nearly 73% of the population
is afraid of spiders.
Common Phobias - My top 10
There's no official list of the top 10 phobia's, but I think this one comes pretty close. Most of these phobias are well known and easily recognizable.
The fear of needles
(It's estimated that around 10% of the population has severe needle phobia)
The fear of heights
(This phobia affects between 2-5% of the population)
The fear of thunderstorms
(Astraphobia is the 3rd most common phobia, mostly affecting children)
The fear of enclosed or confined spaces
(Between 5-7% of the population is severely claustrophobic)
The fear of flying
(It's estimated that around 50% of the population suffer from some degree of fear while flying)
The fear of public speaking
(75% of all public speakers get nervous while speaking)
The fear of the dark
(more common in children, but can sometimes last through to adulthood)
Fear of snakes
(Studies show that this "fear" could just be survival instinct)
Fear of elevators
(Although this is a common phobia, it doesn't have an official name. Claustophobia was created by weaving the two main components responsible for the fear of elevators together, Claustrophobia and Acrophobia )
Fear of people or social situations
(It's estimated that 19 million Americans suffer from Sociophobia)
My Phobia: Mysophobia
The extreme fear of being contaminated with germs.
In my case, I'm scared to death of people germs and germs from milk products.

Seriously? Some phobia's are just plain weird! I mean, who comes up with this stuff?
The fear that a duck is watching you.

Fear of being out of mobile phone contact
(Otherwise known as adolescence)
Fear of digital screens
(This means no tv, computer, digital phone, gps, etc. Basically, hello 1800's!)
The fear off crossing streets
(The chicken that crossed the road definitely wasn't suffering from this phobia)
Fear of unintelligent animals
(I wonder what the criteria is in order to qualify as intelligent)
Fear of the number 4
(I can understand fear of the numbers 13 or 666, but what's so bad about 4?)
Fear of Greek terms or scientific terminology
(Oh no! Not smart words!)
Fear of one's own reflection
(otherwise known as recognizing fugly when you see it)
Fear of sewing buttons
(I suppose with enough velcro, a person could live sewing button free)
Fear of justice
(Otherwise known as an ex-con)
My Phobia: Ichthyophobia
The fear of fish.
Yes. You read it right.
I'm scared of fish.
I can't swim in lakes because I'm scared the fish will nibble on my toes.
I can't go fishing by myself because if I catch something, I wouldn't be able to get it off my line.
Heck, I'm even scared of goldfish!
If you're reading this, then you definitely don't have these phobias!

Funniest Phobias - My top 10
If you happen to suffer from any of these, please don't take offense at my finding them hilarious. Think of it like this: If you start laughing too, I'll be laughing with you instead of at you. And besides, we both know you've been laughing at all my weird phobias!
Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth
(I'm debating whether or not to move this one to the weird category. It's both funny and weird!)
Fear of gravity
(Why not fear air too?)
Fear of sitting
(Seriously? Do you just stand all day?)
Fear of objects at the right side of the body
(I imagine spinning in circles all day so that nothing would constantly be on my right side)
Fear of things to the left side of the body
(If we're going to be scared of the right, we might as well be scared of the left too)
The fear of long words
(That's a little ironic. Do you think they did that on purpose?)
Fear of taste
Fear of string
(So I'm guessing a yo-yo is a no-no?)
Fear of bald people
(Bad news for Dr. Phil)
Fear of money
(I can help you out with that. lol)
My Phobia: Nyctophobia
Fear of the dark
We have Christmas lights strung and lit throughout the house so that if a light bulb burns out, I don't get caught in the dark.
There's also night lights in every room.
And I keep a flashlight in my pocket.
Yes. I'm terrified of the dark.

Fear of ventriloquist's dummies, wax statues and dolls
I can't stand those little suckers. Most dolls creep me out, but a ventriloquist's dummie gives me those creepy crawly goosebumps.
And wax statues? I can't even look at them if they're shown in a movie!

Not So Bad Phobias - My top 10
While a lot of phobias may seem silly or weird, some actually make sense. This is just my opinion, but I think these are pretty healthy phobias and I wouldn't mind having any one of them!
Fear of sexual abuse
Fear of venereal disease
(The gift that keeps on giving)
Fear of leprosy
(I've seen it in the movies. No thank you!)
Fear of dead things
(As opposed to the joy of dead things)
Fear of nuclear weapons
(Do I really have to explain this one?)
Fear of gaining weight
(This seems like a good way to diet)
Fear of sharks
(40,000 pounds. 90 sharp teeth. Willing to eat anything. Yep. I'm scared)
Fear of syphilis
(Well, would you want syphilis?)
Fear of being placed in a grave while still alive
(I think any sane person would be afraid of this)
Fear of ugliness
(Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful!)
My fear: Nyctohylophobia
Fear of dark wooded areas or of forests at night
This is almost laughable when you consider I live in the woods.
But it's true.
I won't go outside after dark.
You never know what could be in the woods.
Dangerous animals..an ax murderer...you just never know!
