Best Protein Bars for Breakfast
On-the-go choice became my everyday choice
When I first started practicing law, I was single and on the go all the time. Most of the time, I needed something I could eat in my car or at my desk while working. Protein bars don't have to be refrigerated (although you don't want to leave them in a hot car), can be carried in a purse or briefcase, and can be eaten at intervals in between tasks.Living alone, I didn't do a lot of cooking, nor did I want to. I had a semi-active social life, a very busy professional schedule, and walked on the nearby beach for exercise all the time. The last thing I wanted to do in the mornings was prepare breakfast or be forced to sit down. A cup of green tea and a Genisoy bar became my favorite breakfast. I came to like the taste of them so much, that I started eating them on weekends, too. Years later, here I am, a stay at home mom and writer, still eating protein bars for breakfast! I'm going to tell you a bit about my favorite bars.(Photo mine)
It All Started With Chocolate . . .
I'd be fibbing if I said that part of my love for protein bars didn't hinge on my love for candy. Even the ones coated in yogurt have a delightful sweetness. My absolute favorite bar of all time has been Genisoy. I used to buy them in the grocery store until we moved and I wasn't able to find them in any local stores. They are perfectly filling (as much as a plate of eggs and hashbrowns) and delicious. My husband and I started finding alternatives (because, in the meantime, I got married and got my husband started on eating protein bars, too!). The Power Bar pictured above is one of his favorites. His criteria for buying them are as follows:1. What's on sale?2. What has the highest protein content?That's fine for him. I have sadly been forced to go gluten-free and was crushed to find out that most of my beloved Genisoy bars have some wheat content.I have a few other brands I enjoy now which don't trigger my wheat sensitivity, but I have never enjoyed any of them as much I enjoyed the brand that got me hooked on having a healthy bar of chocolate first thing in the morning.
My absolute favorites. Peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite flavor combo anyway, but I find this flavor to be the most satisfying.

I actually eat rice cakes, but they aren't for everyone, and neither are protein bars. We should eat what tastes good to us. We should eat what we like, while trying to make the healthiest choices under that umbrella. Maybe you like shakes better? Maybe you just like "clean eating" instead of anything processed? Find what makes you happy. We can diet all we want to, but if we don't enjoy our choices, no diet will ever last or produce long term results.
