What is Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a condition that effects your thyroid gland. It happens when you have a low production of thyroxine, which is a hormone in the thyroid gland. The common symptoms asociated with this condition is weight gain, constipation, fatigue, brittle hair and nails and mood changes. If you are looking for alternative remedies for hypothyroidism there are a few guidelines you can follow. To help keep your thyroid healthy it is recommended you take a good look at your diet and what you consume daily. Your body cannot function properly if you do not eat properly.

The thyroid gland is responsible for producing 4 different hormones. They are monoiodothyronine, Thyroxin, diiodothyronine and triiodothyronine. These hormones are responsible in managing our metabolic rate which has a huge effect on the body if it is disrupted.

Some foods that lower the production of thyroxine are broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and mustard greens. Avoid foods that are high in sugar, dairy products , processed foods, caffeine and alcohol. Make sure you get enough fatty acids such as a supplement taken three times a day which help to  produce thyroxine. Also supplements such as vitamins A,B,C and E which is needed to improve the health of your thyroid.
