Rose Quartz- The Crystal of Love, Peace and Inner Healing

Updated on September 30, 2010

About Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is a variety of quartz crystal that comes in shades ranging from a light pink, to a rose red. The pinkish coloring is due to traces of iron, titanium and manganese within the quartz. Rose quartz has long been known to have qualities and energy that inspires love, peace and well-being. This pink colored crystal can aid in bringing spiritual attunement to the energy of love in all its forms including self-respect, platonic love, forgiveness, compassion and romantic love. It also has a calming energy that helps bring about feelings of relaxation, inner peace and peace within one's environment. In the fields of metaphysics and astrology, rose quartz is often associated with the planet Venus. This seems very appropriate since Venus was the Roman goddess of love.

Rose quartz has the unique ability to draw higher (what some may refer to as Divine) energy, and to open the heart chakra, which is one of seven energy centers located of the body. For these reasons people often use rose quartz to help promote the healing of past traumas and other emotional hurts such as anger and fear. The fluid and calming energy of the rose quartz can help you stay calm, balanced and in better touch with your inner spirit.

Rose Quartz for Sleep, and Loving Dreams

Sleep with a rose quartz beneath your pillow, or placed on your bedside table to inspire healing, loving or peaceful dreams.

Meditate with a rose crystal before you go to sleep at night to assist you with such things as lucid or psychic dreams, a better nights rest or the release of negative feelings such as jealousy or anger. Form your personal intent in your mind (what you want to achieve) before you begin to meditate, and then focus on it throughout your meditation.

Rose Quartz for Romance

As mentioned earlier, rose quartz is often associated with Venus the goddess of love, so this makes a perfect crystal for inspiring romance. There are many ways that you can use it to strengthen and inspire romantic love such as:

Keep a rose quartz in your bedroom, or on a bedside table.

Wear a rose quartz pendant, or keep one in your pocket to help open the heart chakra and inspire feelings of love.

When having a romantic dinner for two at home, create a decorative center piece that includes one or more rose quartz crystals, or place arrange several of them in a shallow glass bowl that is filled with rose petals.

Place a rose quartz in your bathwater to help invoke feelings of love. This can also be a very helpful way to release any feelings of negativity and promote inner peace.

Peace in the Workplace

If you are anticipating something stressful, such as a business meeting or a heated discussion with a co-worker, it can be helpful to keep a piece of rose quartz with you either in your pocket or on your desk. Whenever you use your rose quartz crystal to help absorb any negative energy, its very important to cleanse it afterward so that this negative energy can be released.

A rose quartz in your office or workspace can help promote feelings of calm, well-being and peace. Keep one on your desk or as part of a decorative arrangement on an office table.

Cleansing, Charging, and Caring for your Rose Quartz

When working with rose quartz, or any type of crystal, for a specific purpose its always important to charge it with your specific intent before using it. This means sending the energy of your own desire into the crystal so that it can help you achieve your goal. For example, if you want your rose quartz to help you feel calmer you would hold it in your hand and focus for a few minutes on calming energy. It can even help to say something like, "I charge this crystal with calming energy" or, "I desire to be healed from my anxiety while you're holding this crystal".

It is also important to cleanse your rose quartz from time to time. This means cleansing it of any negative or stagnant energies that have built up within it. You can do this by rinsing it in purified water or in the water of a running stream. Another good way to cleanse it is with the light of a full moon. Set your rose quartz on a windowsill or anywhere that it can receive the light from a full moon overnight. These two methods can also help charge your rose quartz with more vibrant, active energy. Because rose quartz is photosensitive it should never be placed or stored in direct sunlight. Doing so can cause it become dull and cracked.

Cleansing and charging should be done at least once a month or any time it feels that your crystal is filled with stagnant or heavy energy.
