Salt Water Flush

Updated on July 10, 2017

Master Cleanse Salt Water Flush: A Bath for Your Insides

Just as you take a bath each day to wash away dirt from the outside of your body, proponents of the master cleanse diet suggest you also give your insides a good regular cleaning. One way to do this is by using a salt water flush. This flush works much like having the radiator in your car flushed. It cleans out all the trash, wastes, toxins and deposits that keep your body from working at its best.

First, you may think a laxative or enema you can buy at your local drug store can do an adequate job of clearing out whatever may be clogging up your intestines. However, these preparations will only clean out the colon - which is only a small part of the intestines - and sometimes only part of the colon. The salt water flush is superior to these methods because it can clean out the entire digestive system. The flush also costs less than some store bought colon cleansing products.

Second, you may wonder if you can do a salt water flush yourself or if you need a doctor or nurse to help you with the procedure. The answer is no! A salt water flush can be done at home with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen cabinets. In fact the only things you need to properly complete a salt water flush are water and sea salt. In his essay "The Master Cleanser with Special Needs and Problems" Stanley Burroughs cautions users to be sure they use sea salt in their preparation and not regular salt because regular table salt will not work properly.

You will now need to know how to perform a salt water flush. The procedure is very simple. First thing in the morning, mix one quart of lukewarm water with two teaspoonsful of sea salt. Drink the entire concoction before you have eaten any food. Within one hour you should have several bowel movements. If not, you may need to try adding a little more salt to the mix, or you may just need to drink more water to help aid the flushing process. Since this flush is not harmful to the body and your body cannot become dependant on the salt water, like it can become dependant on chemical laxatives, this flush is safe to use as often as needed.

Burroughs also suggests drinking an herbal laxative tea in the evening before you plan to do a salt water flush. He says the tea will help to loosen the deposits and gunk in the digestive tract making it easier for the salt water to flush the wastes out the next morning.

So, next time you feel fatigued or unusually tired, you might try helping your body along by washing out your digestive tract with a salt water flush. This flush can help clean the toxins and built up waste products out of your digestive tract. The end results are better, more effective digestion through a cleaner less toxic digestive tract.

This is the "master stupidest idea" I've ever read about! Eat right, and excercise. Then you're body will eventually balance out and eliminate what isn't working. It's just like douching. No respectably doctor would back it up- yet all these polly annish wannabe health freaks uphold it without the slightest clue of how your body actually works. As a microbiologists I know what the flora want and do for a person. This is not a nice thing to do to them. Here's a nice thing: Eat some yogurt, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and by ALL means go organic. Everyone on here does these cleanses, because they have "crappy systems" from eating processed crap, finally waking up one day and saying "It's time to be healthy - NOW!", and expecting results overnight. Well it's good to wake up, and say this, but it's not this 10 day overhaul that will work. Can I make it any more clearer that you will compound the critical pH and mineral levels in your system!

To the girl above, of course you were freezing...kind of like you do when you're sick!

Oh, and this whole business of dried fecal matter in your system is so ridiculous. People, please don't fall for this. It's just a ton of shit....literally.

When I do the flush i first prepare the glass of warm water. Next i get 2 teaspoons of my salt and put it a small glass, similiar to what you would use for shots only a bit bigger. I then put a little bit of water with the salt and swallow it in 1 go. i then drink my glass of warm water.

i find this makes the whole process a lot easier, and works equally as good.

      must rush, gotta go again!

I love this cleanse. It was a bit intense, at first, but oh my gosh!..I feel so much better. I am now using in conjunction with the lemon cleanse. I feel like a different person. It's amazing what the effect, of toxins in the body, can have on our health and our thoughts. I am really happy that I found this. thank you!

I am on day one with the lemon juice, pepper and syrup and the warm salt water. After the first 32 ounces of salt water, I am running to the loo. Stools are liquid and burn but I guess it's all good. I am in it for the long haul.

ugh... just sucked down 3 cups... added some lemon juice to the last cup with hopes it would be slightly better. Negative. I'm hoping the 3 cups I drank will do the trick because I positively can't drink another sip of it. UGH! I need to brush my teeth, tongue and lips.

I accidentally drank 16 oz. instead of a quart but I did drink about 4 oz. of water after the 16 oz. to get the taste out of my mouth. When I realized my math error, two hours later, I drank another 16 oz. of water. Did I screw this up? I did go to the bathroom about 7 times starting about 45 minutes after I drank the salt water.

For at least 10 days, drink around 10 servings/day of the following:

2 Tablespoons (1 fluid ounce) fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice NOT BOTTLED JUICE!! (approx. ½ lemon), 2 Tablespoons (1 fluid ounce) organic Grade B maple syrup, 1/10 Teaspoon or more cayenne pepper (hot red pepper), and 1 Cup (8 fluid ounces) purified or spring water, NOT fluoridated water. (This is what I did) This is the equivalent of taking an empty gallon water jug and filling it with:

the juice of 5 lemons 1 1/4 cup of organic Grade B maple syrup 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper 10 cups of water Shake it all up and you got your days’ serving!

      Salt-Water Flush Recipe

Upon rising drink a mixture of:

2 level teaspoons of uniodized sea salt to a… quart of lukewarm water Herbal Laxative Tea (You can find this at most grocery stores)

Each evening drink an herbal laxative tea to help with elimination - preferably right before bed.

That’s it! Do that for at least ten days for a complete intestinal cleanse. If you haven’t read my experience with the 10-day lemonade diet, check it out here. Or if you just want to read about the final results you can go directly to the 10th day of the lemonade diet.

I'm going to try this procedure this weekend. Does anyone know why Atlantic Sea Salt is better? And will this take care of parasites in the digestive tract? Thanks guys. I'll let you know what transpires.

did not know that you could actually clean your inside with something as simple as salt water. its a cheap and simple process. i thought a good bowel movement with a high fibre diet was good enough for your digestive tract but it does not clean the dried feacal matter in your colon that has pilled over the years.i did my clense today.First passed some gas and then the bowel movement after two hours. I sat on the toilet and the waste was liquid and then became clean almost as clear as urine. Try this only when you are at home as you need to sit on the loo for a while.

      Thanks

This is a great article! I didn't know you could use salt to cleanse the digestive tract. I have spastic colon and many bowel problems related to IBS. This is certainly worth a try and I will be back to let you know the results.

      Thank you for sharing,

Just did my first saltwater flush (on day 8 of a 34-day juice fast), and I'm freezing! Drank the quart of water in 4 cups. The first cup was great, might as well have been sipping chicken noodle soup broth. The second cup was ok, but after a week of not eating, the fullness was upsetting. The third cup was starting to make me nauseous, and I forced down the fourth cup just to get it in within the half-hour.

I laid down on my right side for a half-hour, as prescribed, and read a book for distraction. Like clockwork, at 1 hour after the first sip, I noticed a need for the toilet. I sat there for 45-minutes spewing all the waste I have left after a week of fasting. And now I'm so cold!!! Immediately I was thirsty - guess I still had that salty taste in my mouth and I needed desperately to rinse it out. So I've had my juice for the day. Took me less than 10 minutes to slog down 3 cups of diluted pomegranate/cranberry juice.

I would like to go to the gym later today, so I hope the toilet duties will be done here within the next hour or so. My body aches from shivering so hard!

I have researched the salt water flush and tried it myself several times. It is well known as an effective way in cleansing the entire digestive tract. I have had colonics and still make use of enemas. The salt flush in my opinion is a safer and more effective method for long term use in maintaining a healthy digestive tract. Colonics are great initially in removing years of built up rubbish and hardened faecal matter in the large intestine (colon). I had 12 in total at 32yrs (1 a day for 6 days. A break and then repeated.) Now I find occassional enemas useful if eating solids (only does large intestine). However when juice fasting and doing juice cleanses I feel the salt water flush is able to do its' cleanse more efficiently and don't feel it may be sitting on top of food/faeces that have not yet been passed. I had to have more than a teaspoon for the salt flush to work for me. I also used sun dried sea salt which is much better (e.g. Atlantic sea salt). To get a thorough cleansing I sometimes do the cleanse twice in a row. Bowels work in about 30min or under then for me. Another useful tool I have found during detox periods (or for anyone who sometimes feels they need the loo but can't go) when toxins gather in the rectum (after which if not removed can recirculate in the system causing itching, irritability, etc. "autointoxication") is using a 100ml plastic syringe. You can fill this several times with water. Squeezing lemon juice in helps clean and gives more of a release. Most of the time I just use water though and one could also use salt. Lubricating the entrance with some coconut butter or jojoba oil makes the syringe glide in nicely. You can get these syringes from hydroponic companies for about 0.50p to a £1.00. This is great for regular use. After a course of colonics, salt flushes or enemas I recommend: including prebiotc foods such as garlic, onions, shallots etc. in the diet (feeds the good bacteria in the digestive system). You may initially want to also take a probiotic supplement which you can get from a local health food store ("Fresh and Wild" sell them too!) Probiotics are the good bacteria themselves e.g. "Acidophilus" and "Bifidus" found in humans (probiotics not found in humans will not work and may cause harm so look for these). Rely on prebiotic foods hereafter to develop healthy cultures of the bacteria. The one thing with using the syringe is that if you are only relieving the rectal bit you are not depleting the rest of the good bacteria in the large intestine. However before worrying too much about your intestinal flora it is imperative that your whole digestive tract be cleaned first if you have never done any housework. Good bacteria cannot flourish in a dirty environment. Here are some useful links: http://www.cleansingorsurgery.com/saltwaterflush.h... http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_book/Cleansing%2...

Great article. I was completely unaware that one could clean the digestive tract using salt water. Nice to know there are other cost-effective alternatives out there to get clean inside.

      A few questions, though:

      1. Does performing a salt water cleanse liquify the stool like many laxatives do?

      2. Would using a fiber supplement (ex. FiberSure, Benefiber) with the salt water cleanse be effective?

      Thanks again. :-)
