The Darkness of Depression

The Darkness of Depression (In memory of Robin Williams)

Imagine living in a world of pure darkness with only a hardly visible dot of light somewhere in the distance. Imagine being so sad that you can hardly move. Imagine just wanting to cry out for no reason. Friends, this is what depression does to you. Every since Robin Williams' death, I've been reflecting on my personal battle with depression. Depression is a real illness, and it needs to be taken seriously. The summer of my Freshman year of high school, I was diagnosed with depression. It never goes away, but with proper medication (and prayer), depression is manageable. Now, with that being said, there is no "textbook" solution. I am not a psychiatrist by any standard, but I know from my personal experience the pain depression causes. Depression literally can eat you alive. Committing suicide is a serious result of depression and should not be joked about. Depression needs to be monitored, and treated with counseling as well as medication and healthy living habits. If you or someone you love is suffering from depression, I urge you to seek help. There are plenty of resources out there about depression.
