Step one of the vegan pie recipe -- start your vegan pie crust

first thing first -- get a bowl, a wooden spoon and the ingredients

Mix half of cup of lukewarm water with the half amount of the sugar The water should not be cold as cold water inhibits the yeast cells but not hot as hot water kills the yeast cells. Just try it against your own skin -- it should be around the temperature of your own body. Place the water into the mixing bowl and add the yeast before its getting cold. Add two tablespoons of cooking oil. Mix and stir well. Vegan desserts are easy to start

Add the flour, salt and the rest of the water -- keep it lukewarm. Use the accessories for dough making of your electrical kitchen mixer -- they all have them, if you ever wondered what those curly steel attachment things are?... Or use your breadmaking machine's pasta feature. as an alternative if you prefer it, knead the dough by hand -- it soon will form a firm mass that is not sticking to the fingers but gets firmer, pleasant to touch. Keep some extra flour handy -- as you start mixing with the machine you will see if it needs more water or more flour. Flours are not exactly the same -- some are dry some are less dry. The altitude of your location makes also a difference -- but the extra amounts are small -- so, if necessary, add carefully, one spoon at the time. Be not scared to try -- you always can add more water again or more flour again. If the dough will be too much at the end -- you can use as much as needed and store the rest in the freezer in a foil for next time, or just give it away to a friend that does not know how to make it/ is too lazy to make it/is too busy to make it.

Knead (-- that is the name of the process of mixing the dough after the ingredients homogenized) for some five to ten minutes.

Leave the dough to rise into a vegan pie crust -- cover with kitchen cloth

Leave dough in a bowl that is greased with a fine layer of cooking oil on its walls-- to prevent the dough from sticking to its walls. Cover the bowl with dough with a kitchen cloth and leave it for 30 minutes. Cover with a kitchen cloth to keep warm.

Step three of the home made vegan crust recipe-- knock the dough -- it will be soon a vegan pie crust

Knock the dough in the bowl -- this means to just fold it into two and fold it again and again -- five-to seven times. This is to remove air bubbles. Leave crust in the bowl for another 20 minutes.

Step four -- transform the vegan dough into a vegan crust -- a basic for the vegan pie recipe

Get the dough on the table/board. Cut it into two parts -- a smaller and one bigger -- for the lining of the baking tray and the other one for the decorating stripes.

Step five -- roll the dough into a vegan pie crust for a vegan apple pie

This is part of a vegan pie recipe with a home made crust

Roll the bigger part with a rolling pin or, if you don't have one -- with a bottle -- not that you must empty it! I used this old bottle that I still have in the house -- it must be glass bottle as the plastics are too light for the task.

Step six -- getting the vegan pie crust into the baking tray

The vegan apple pie starts to show

As you roll out the vegan pie crust, check if the dough is sticking to the surface below. If necessary, add a few sprinkles of flour under the vegan pie crust to keep it from sticking. When the crust is rolled into about a baking tray's size and shape -- place it into it, gently press down so it lines the bottom and the walls. Leave the sides to form an overhang around the dish. Trim excess dough with kitchen shears if necessary, leaving about an inch overhang. This step might be a bit tricky as the crust is springy. Just use your fingers and pinch the crust wherever its needed to get ends together.

Place the apples into the dish -- over the layer of the vegan pie crust in the dish. Fold the seams of the vegan pie crust over the margins of the apple mass. Smell it -- that is the smell of a vegan lifestyle!

Step seven of this vegan pie recipe-- decorate the vegan apple pie with vegan pie crust strips

The vegan apple pie is ready for baking

Roll the remaining vegan pie crust and use a kitchen scissors or a special dough/pizza cutter or just simply a knife -- to cut ribbon shapes out of it. Decorate with the vegan crust ribbons your pie.

The vegan pie crust is ready to make the vegan apple pie -- are you?

Prepare a very sweet black tea -- two tablespoons of sugar to half a glass of tea -- and brush the vegan apple pie with it on the top of the crust. This sugary solution serves to caramelize on top of the pie and form a delicious real vegan pie crust while getting baked. Leave the dish to prove (rise) for another 15 minutes. Preheat oven during this time to 180 C degrees. Place baking dish into oven for 30 minutes or so. When the top vegan pie crust is light brown switch heat to 150 C degrees and leave pie for another 10 - 15 minutes

Step eight -- vegan apple pie is baked in the oven -- end of the vegan pie recipe

the vegan apple pie smells through your home -- the vegan pie recipe makes you a successful member of your family!

Once baked -- brush vegan apple pie again with the sugary tea and leave it to cool. It can be consumed as soon as you decide -- warm or cold, with whipped cream or ice cream on top for the non vegan family members or friends.

Oh no, not another apple pie! What about those who can not eat pies no matter how much they would like to? Those who have to watch all the calories down to the last one?
