Weight Watchers PointsPlus Calculator

Updated on September 9, 2013

Weight Watchers Points

A multitude of happy dieters have lost weight, and successfully maintained it, using the Weight Watchers plan. Their new PointsPlus® program takes state-of-the-art technology and the latest scientific and nutritional discoveries to make it the most effective and healthy plan they've ever offered!

The foundation of the new Weight Watchers' PointsPlus® Program is based on calculating daily and weekly points. Their weight loss experts have come up with a formula that, when followed, encourages steady weight loss and healthy, always delicious, eating.

Weight Watchers has eliminated the guess work. All you have to know about what you eat is the content, per portion, of protein, carbs, fat, fiber. The calculating is done for you. Just read the nutritional panel on the package and enter the information into a PointsPlus™ Calculator. In seconds, it will give you the exact points of that particular food.

The success of the Weight Watchers PointsPlus® system depends on tracking points. Unlike their system of the past, where a pocket-sized sliding scale was given to everyone when they joined the program, the updated plan requires a formatted calculator. The calculator makes it easy and convenient to determine the points value in any food that you eat.

There is more than one way to access to a points calculator. (see link below) Weight Watchers has made one available on their website. Just plug in the values for protein, carbohydrates, total fat and fiber and, voila, you'll have the points! A calculator is also part of the Weight Watchers Online program. For those who are subscribers to Weight Watchers Online, or attend Weight Watchers Meetings and have subscribed to E-tools, free apps are available via Weight Watchers Mobile™ for your IPhone, IPad, etc.

Don't get mad at the scale. Track your points!

What does the PointsPlus® Calculator Do?

  • Determines your daily points goal.
  • Calculates your weekly allowance of bonus points.
  • Tracks your daily points.
  • Tracks your use of weekly bonus points.
  • Tracks your weight loss or gain.

In other words, it helps you to stay focused and on target!

The calculator is attractive, hand-sized, lightweight and very portable. You can bring it with you anywhere, including the restaurant or grocery store. Shop smart, calculate points before you buy!

Does Weight Watchers Work?

Yes, unequivocally yes! Weight Watchers does work. Check out the many success stories on their website, read their monthly magazine or visit a Weight Watchers Meeting and ask. Every leader has to have lost all of their excess weight and maintained it in order to even be allowed to work there. Each meeting has several leaders in attendance. They alone are evidence that it works ...and they are loving it!

Want to test it out and see how the points system works? Here is a link to a CALCULATOR made for Weight Watcher points on their website. Plug in the fat, carbs, protein and fiber content of your favorite foods and figure out what the points per serving would be. Remember, most people have a baseline of 29 points per day...but the good news is that there are lots of bonus points per week that you can use, as well!

June 30, 2012...restarted Weight Watchers today. Just plugged in the nutritional information on the "healthy" bakery whole wheat bran muffins I've been eating (2 at a sitting). YIKES! It's no wonder I've been gaining weight. 8 points each X 2=16 points. BACK TO REALITY. Weight Watchers WORKS and this is what I do. :)

HI Sinea, interesting article! I have just spent a month using http://caloriecount.about.com/ to track my vigorous exercise and low calorie diet. I have concluded that I am an Air Fern disguised as a person. I am going to review your recommendations above. Thanks for the article. JR

@Siena, Great stuff! Coincidentally, I just came from my weekly WW weigh-in and was down -2.4 lbs for a total loss of -33.6 lbs since I started back up this past December. I'm having good success with the revamped PointsPlus Values plan and rely on the pocket calculator. Thanks for the post, voted up and useful!
