Buying a Mother’s Day gift does not have to be an expensive proposition. Here are 10 gifts that your mother is sure to love. Flowers die but these gifts can have a true deep meaning and mean much more than a cheap Hallmark card. If you buy an expensive gift for your mother and both of your grandmothers it can get very expensive. Here are some alternatives that will not only save you money, but will also be a treasured gift unlike a bouquet of flowers that will die soon.

Handmade gifts often are much more sentimental to mothers and grandmothers than extravagant gifts you buy in the store. Why buy your grandmother a laptop computer when she still thinks people in offices use typewriters? Only you know what your mother and grandmothers would like best for Mothers Day. Usually it is not an extravagant gift that they want. The 10 really cool Mothers Day gifts below can cost you less than $10.00 and will truly mean a lot to the recipients of these gifts.

NOTE: This article will make some inherent assumptions, regarding products that many already have. Naturally, the more you are willing to spend, the more lavish or luxurious a particular item can be. For example, in my recommendations below, you can opt for a picture frame, for a family portrait, that falls below $10. Likewise, you can buy a picture frame that costs much more. Similarly, you can certainly serve your mother breakfast in bed with a breakfast tray you already have, or you may desire to make a purchase another different breakfast tray. You are really only limited by your tastes and preferences.

10. Family Portrait

You can use your digital camera and take a picture. You can get 11x14 sizes printed for around $3.50-$5.00 online. You can then buy a cheap picture frame from a dollar store to put the picture in. It does not matter that it is not a top of the line frame because your mother will only notice the pictures of her family and grandchildren that is contained within that cheap frame. You may also be able to print a picture out at home for free if you have a photo quality printer with some photo paper to print the picture on. Mothers and grandmothers love to get pictures of their grandchildren. Save the money that it would cost you to go to Sears Portraits and use your own digital camera to capture some pictures of your family for your mother. She will love getting pictures for Mothers Day.

Tip: Go to the dollar store first and see what size frames they have available and then print your picture in the size that will fit within the frame you can buy from the dollar store. For those who prefer the convenience of the online world, Amazon is a great place to find cheap picture frames that will typically range from $5 to $10.

9. Handwritten Letter

Everybody uses email and Facebook to communicate in today’s digital world. Break the Bic pen out and handwrite a letter. You do remember how to write by hand without a keyboard right? In the letter share funny stories you remember from your childhood. Share stories of how much you care for your mom because of everything she has done for you over the years. If you do it right it will bring a tears of joy to your mothers eyes. A simple handwritten letter expressing your love and respect will be something she will cherish for the rest of her life. The next time she heads out to play bingo at the Senior Citizens Center you can bet that she will be bragging about the handwritten letter she received for Mothers' Day.

If you own a Wii then invite your mother over to play a game of bowling on the Wii. She may not want to; however once she does she is sure to enjoy it. It’s a lot of fun when your mother gets a strike and your kids start whooping, hollering, cheering, and high-fiving her.

5. Make Her Dinner

How many meals has your mother made you over the years? Countless meals right? Instead of taking her out to the Olive Garden make a homemade meal that you know she will like. If your mother likes spaghetti then make spaghetti using her favorite recipe. She better like it, because you are using her recipe.

4. Music CD

Everybody and their dogs are listening to music that is downloaded. Although everybody in the world seems to be listening to downloaded music your elderly mother may be proud of the fact the she is now technologically advanced. She just recently upgraded from listening to music on cassette tapes to music on CD’s. Instead of explaining to her how CD’s are outdated go ahead and buy her one with a genre of music she likes. You can even burn the disc yourself.

3. Hugs

Simply giving your mom a hug and telling her that you truly love her is often the best Mothers Day gift a mother can ever receive.

2. Breakfast in Bed

It doesn’t have to be breakfast in bed but you do need to cook it yourself. Don’t make omelets if your mother does not like omelets. Make something she likes to eat. Fresh squeezed orange juice is always a positive addition to any Mothers Day breakfast.

1. Talkin' Memories

Just sitting down and talking with your mother is a great mother’s day gift. You can share funny stories and great memories that you both have of each other when you were younger. If you talk long enough you are bound to learn some new stories about your mother that you can share in the future with your own grand kids. Hopefully your mother doesn't have any stories involving Marijuana and a Led Zeppelin concert where she got to go backstage and “meet” the band.
