Gifts For Dad | Fathers Day Presents

Updated on June 1, 2014

Useful and Special Gift Ideas for Dad.

Being a father is a tough job but choosing a present for dad can also be hard. But all men like getting a new tie as a present, right? Wrong!

Ok, so a tie could theoretically be a good choice but honestly, how many does he already have? Time to try something different, and lucky you, most of the work is already done for you right here on this page.

You will hopefully find this list of gift ideas for dad inspirational and be able to pick out a suitable gift for Father's day, his birthday or Christmas .

A gift for the prepper

I know, it looks a bit cheesy but it works, and might come in handy one day when the tornado knocks on the door. Or save the day by charging your smartphone on the camping trip!

A Shaving Gift for Traditional Dads

Most men care about their appearance and a good gift suggestion for you dad is to shop for toiletry and grooming items. At the top of the grooming list we have shaving products of all sorts.

Many men prefer to shave the manual way with a traditional razor shaver. It is a matter of taste and each group (the electric shaver gang vs the manual traditionalists) will stick to their method for life.

So, giving a electric device to a dad who shaves with a razor is a waste of time and your gift will be more useful if it serves a purpose the next morning.

Luckily, there are a lot of personal items to be found in this category that would make a perfect birthday gift for dad such as balms, shaving creams, after-shave lotions and more. Prices sway between inexpensive every day items to very extravagant and costly. Yes, men's toiletry can be just as pricy that for women.

If you are looking for a sporty yet classy fragrance for men then I suggest you try Issey Miyake Eau De Toilette shown here which is a favorite of mine. It is discrete, non-intrusive and has a fresh sparkle of citrus.

Gift Suggestion for Old and Young Fathers: A New Wallet

How about a gift dad will carry with him all the time? Having a nice wallet is just as important as wearing a tie or polishing your shoes. Why? Because it is one of the few items that you brandish all the time, and what kind of wallet and in what condition it is, says a lot about who you are.

It is easy to grow accustomed to the same old wallet until it is almost falling apart, and if this is the case with your dad, getting him a new one is a good idea..If your father travels a lot in his work, the RFID blocking passport-wallet is a must-have item.

Hobby Gift Suggestions For Dads

Ever feel like you dad could benefit from a new interest or activity of some sort? Give him a hobby present that sends him in the right direction!

You never know, dad gift ideas like these may be the start of a epic interest that could change his life. Even if he doesn't need to change a thing, a new hobby can't be wrong. The compact fishing kit is a great gift for any man but calligraphy art, wood carving, or prospecting for gold are excellent hobbies that require skill and dedication to master.

Give your Dad a good morning hug.... mug.

Mugs are always a good item to choose as a present. They are cheap, come in any shape and style and they carry a message to your loved one!

A perfect fathers day gift.

Signed collector's memorabilia

Signed The Doors guitar
Signed The Doors guitar

Brad Arnold - The Doors signed guitar with certificate of authenticity

If your father is a fan of something then you are in luck because whatever it might be - from fishing to music bands to sports - it is pretty easy to find autographed items that make awesome gifts.

Signed with PSA certificate

A lot of times, these collectibles are fully functional, like the Les Paul style guitar shown above. The signed Captain America shield also works but perhaps fits better as a wall decoration in dad's office at work.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

I think these are great gifts, specially the ones that come with PSA / DNA proofs of authenticity which may help increase the value of the item over time. Who knows, that guitar may be worth twice as much in a couple of years. Until then he can enjoy its sound and make a good impression in the band.

Authentic signed sports gear can also be found for sale directly from the athlete or licensed agents such as Starguard Collectibles (NBA).

A Special and Odd Weather Tech Gift

Ambient Weather WS-YG709 Galileo Thermometer, Barometer, Hygrometer and Quartz Clock Weather Station (Silver)
Ambient Weather WS-YG709 Galileo Thermometer, Barometer, Hygrometer and Quartz Clock Weather Station (Silver)

This is a analog indoor weather station with a Galileo temperature meter.

The three gauges of traditional type and measure humidity, barometric pressure and show the time. The tube is a Galileo temperature meter which contains fluid and a number of globes that also contain fluids and a temperature tag. Depending on the tube temperature, the globes rise or fall.

This is not anything like a lava lamp and the changes in position of the temp globes is very slow, in tune with the change in room temperature. While the temp reading will never be exact, the decorative addition gives you an idea if the room really has gotten colder or warmer.

Set in a nice wood frame, this analog weather station is 14.5 inches high.

A Useful Gift for Handy Dads

MagnoGrip 311-090 Magnetic Wristband
MagnoGrip 311-090 Magnetic Wristband

If your dad is a handyman at home this is one of those small, inexpensive but useful things he will enjoy discovering when he opens the gift wrap.

This armband is pure genius since it is almost like having a third hand to hold stuff. The magnetic armband keeps screws, nuts and bolts, and any metallic item attached to it in a way that is easier to access than if you have them in a pocket.

If you are looking for a inexpensive gift for someone who is into home improvement, we suggest you get this one.

Good-Looking Leather Belts for Men

Almost every man on earth wears a belt of some sort and it can say a lot about who carries it. A belt is a relatively cheap gift and yet it can do wonders to raise dad's style factor. The dress belts here are just a small suggestion and there are hundreds of variations to choose from. Most of these work well with casual clothes, while the black belt from Erik Blair is a excellent classy dress belt to keep father in style.

Does your Father like Westerns? Get the Deadwood Box

Deadwood: The Complete Series
Deadwood: The Complete Series

If the father of the house likes Western movies, the Deadwood TV series can't be beat. This is not your average Western. Deadwood is all about grit, pain, struggle, corruption and dusty streets. This is a nice Christmas gift so dad can stay inside and watch the drama instead of being out in the cold.

If he hasn't seen it yet, this is one of the best Western productions ever made with a 8.9 IMDB rating to prove it. Originally aired on HBO between 2004 - 2006, the box contains 3 complete seasons.

Mine.. all mine!

Funnt warning wall sign

Some of the best gifts for dad may be the simple ones, like a sign to hang on the garage or tool shed wall. A multi-tool is another classic. If he has recently moved to a new house, your old man is probably going to need a new barbecue kit!

A special present for new parents

Proud Baby Clay Hand & Footprint Keepsake Photo Wall Mount Frame Kit - Black
Proud Baby Clay Hand & Footprint Keepsake Photo Wall Mount Frame Kit - Black

This is one of the best new dad gifts. The clay print kit is a somewhat unusual item (which is good) that you can give a Father if you are a child of the house, a partner, or a friend of the family.

If the household has small kids, this clay foot and handprint kit is the ultimate gift for parents as their kids grow older. It isn't very expensive and as a keepsake item it will be remembered for a long time.

Hopefully you found something suitable as a present from this page. If you have more ideas, share them here!

@CatJGB: If he is still vital, then consider getting a hobby item like painting kits (there are many simple kits), crossstich, woodburning etc.

My dad turns 70 this year, no idea AT ALL what to get him, apart from a gathering of the clan from far and wide. Hmmm, maybe a photo of all the grandkids, they are far flung and many he doesn't see from year to year.

The book Sh--t my Dad Says would make an awesome gift! I heard the author interviewed on the radio, he just started writing down all the things his Dad would say - apparently he was quite a character - and it turned into a book, who would have thought!
