Updated on May 2, 2016

Happy Birthday!

Oh the anticipation of turning the ripe old age of 18; all of those things that you can do being an adult, yet those days seeming so far away. Then the day hits and you don’t know what to do with yourself!

You could turn to a few friends, the ones who have already turned 18 and know the drill. They would probably be happy to give you the big one-eight rundown, and perhaps take you around and show you what it means to turn 18. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?

Your 18th birthday should be spent doing things that you were not legally allowed to do the day before. I have made a list of 18 things to do on your 18th birthday, sounds suitable, doesn’t it? With at least these 18 things to do on your 18th birthday, how can you possibly not think of something to do?

18 things to do on your 18th birthday. Here goes!

Things to Do on Your Birthday

  1. Go skydiving: Perhaps the biggest adrenaline rush you will ever have in your life, but it is so worth it!

  2. Get a tattoo: Now your parents can’t say no! Well, they can, but you’re an adult now and can make grown up decisions. Keep it classy.

  3. Visit an adult store: Okay, not so much keeping it classy, but go to an adult store with a friend, you’ll find many things to laugh at that you never even knew existed.

  4. Go to a dance club: A real dance club, not like one of those teenage dance clubs for 17 and under only.

  5. Go on a road trip: Ever dreamt of traveling? Now is your chance! Spread your wings, you free birdy, you!

  6. Book a hotel: With friends, of course. You might need a credit or debit card in order to do this, just try not to trash the place because they do charge extra for that.

  7. Apply for a credit card: Now that you’re 18, you should start working on building a good credit score. Your bank likely offers credit cards with low limits. Do not abuse the power of the credit card or it will defeat the purpose!

  8. Try to buy a new car: You’ll likely need a cosigner and proof of income, so make sure it is a car that you can truly afford. This will also help build your credit!

  9. Start looking for your own place: Now that you’re a free bird, it’s time to start thinking about moving out of mom and dad’s house.

  10. Stay out all night: Because you can. A lot of these things on this list will help you accomplish this one.

  11. Go camping: When isn’t camping fun? Celebrate the big 18 with a few other 18+ friends by chilling out around a bonfire doing whatever it is that you 18 year olds do.

  12. Buy an awesome outfit: Now that you’re an adult, you should buy an adult outfit to symbolize your new adult self. Preferably, an outfit that will look good for interviews for that awesome adult job you’ll need to support an awesome adult life.

  13. Open an IRA account: It’s time to start saving for retirement. Look into retirement accounts and talk to your bank to see if they offer anything for retirement.

  14. Invest in stocks: Investing in the right stocks can help set your future for you! Do your research and consult with a professional for help.

  15. Play the lotto: Play the lottery or buy a few scratch offs, just because you can now and could not yesterday. Warning: Scratch offs are addicting.

  16. Go on a cruise: If you already have a passport, awesome, if not, get one. A cruise is always a great adult way of celebrating!

  17. Thank your parents: They kept you alive for long enough to make it to adulthood, that alone deserves a big thanks!

  18. Vote: This is necessary. Do your research, cast your vote, let your big 18 year old voice be heard! It matters now.
