52 Romantic Love Letters

Updated on February 29, 2012

The Romance of Love Letters

The art of writing romantic love letters will never lose its charm, the effect of receiving one won't either. There is something beyond romantic, almost magical about reading a love letter written to you, they tell your own personal love story.

So why 52? It is to represent one romantic love letter a week for a year.

The true romance behind this Valentine's Day gift is that it is the beginning of a year long tribute to your loved one and the love you share. This Valentines Day as part of your gift, give a sweet handwritten love letter, the first of the year. Then continue to give a romantic love letter to your partner every week.

A Romantic Love Letter for Every Week

Easier Than You Might Think

By default all love letters are romantic, no matter whether they are a poem or a simple note. It is the thought behind them, the time one took to write it. It is not required to be an amazing writer or poet, it is an expression of your love and that is what will be appreciated.

Writing one letter a week is not only a wonderful tribute to the one you love but it also reminds you on a daily basis why you love them, it keeps the romance and passion alive in the relationship for both parties.

Once you start writing your love letters, you will see how easy it is to write about your love, just be true and let it flow. Do not judge or critize yourself, your partner will love it regardless.

Using love quotes are not only a great way to start or end a love letter but can be a wonderful source of inspiration for writing your love letters.

A True Love Story - Danny and Annie

This is a video done by a wonderful organization called StoryCorps. They record real, everyday people telling their stories and then turn them into these wonderful short animations using their voices. This one is the story of the couple "Danny and Annie" it is their love story filled with love letters.

P.S. Fair warning, it might be good to have a tissue near by. Enjoy this beautiful love story~

Origin of the Valentine

It is believed that when the priest Valentinus was imprisoned, for secretly marrying young couples against the word of the Emperor, he feel in love with the jailer's daughter. He expressed his love to her with love letters signed "From Your Valentine"

Presenting Your Love Letters

Half the Fun

You can get really creative in how you give the love letter each week; creating an anticipation, something to look forward.

One week mail it to your home, the next to their office. Slip it into their purse or briefcase. Place it in a spot you will know they will find it, like beside the coffee pot.

Have fun and be creative with it. It can be as simple as handing it to them. There are no rules, place it or deliver it in the same manner each week, this is a personal preference. You know best what your lover likes most.

Love Letter Supplies - For That Sweet Added Touch

Writing the letter itself is the true gift, the way you present it is an added treat. Hand written letters are far more romantic and personal, sealing it with a wax stamp is the perfect finishing touch. It makes the act of opening the letter lovely.

Accompaniment For Your Love Letter - A Little Music

"If music be the food of love play on" ~ Shakespeare Twelfth Night

The soundtrack to the movie P.S. I Love You is filled with wonderful music and love songs. Not only one of my favorite romantic love stories on film, but the music of the film is packed with great songs. Give the soundtrack as an accompaniment to your love letter.

P.S. I Love You Soundtrack
P.S. I Love You Soundtrack

With hits like P.S. I Love You, Galway Girl and Love You til' the End this is one of my favorite soundtracks.

P.S. I Love You

A classic tune sung by the amazing Billie Holiday. The song is sung as though she is writing a letter to her lover.

It is so important not to wait for Valentine's Day to share love with someone. I like the idea of 53 letters a year - a bit steep for me, but if I got one I wouldn't be unhappy! It was also nice to be reminded of Writing and Stationary and Sealing wax. I have been typing on the computer so long I had almost forgotten...
